Oldham County 50 Owen County 44

Featured Replies

Oldham jumps on top 7-0, but Owen - playing with fierce emotion tonight - battled back and ultimately took an 11 point advantage.

A three pointer by Parker Simpson pulled Oldham to within 22-18 at the half, and the Colonels' turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, tying the game at 24 early in the third.

It was 31-31 at the end of three.

The "bigs" all had foul troubles all night. Oldham's 6'5" Nolan Denise fouled out in the second half, and 6'6" junior center Tyler Wesley had 4 fouls when the game ended. But the foul that turned the tide irreversibly Oldham's way was when Owen's 6'8" forward/center Sawyer Williams fouled out on an over-the-back call, trying to rebound his own FT miss, midway through the fourth.

From there on, Oldham seemed to be in control, although the margin never exceeded six points the rest of the way.

Turnovers and foul shooting told the tale. Owen had (unofficially) 12 more turnovers than Oldham County, and - despite shooting more free throws - hit one fewer free throw than Oldham. The Colonels hit 67% of their freebies (10 of 15), while Owen was 9 of 19 at the line.

Kerrie Smith led Oldham with 15 points. Oldham improves to 20-7; Owen falls to 15-8.

Sawyer Williams for Owen was a beast on the glass, and Stone Osborne hit three threes for Owen County.

The Rebels have to get by the Jones crew from Gallatin first.

I agree Politician. I would never bet against Coach Jones in the District!
