2011 state favorite

The Tigers opened the season with a no hitter and followed that up with a one hitter and a two hitter the pitching staff is all that as advertised.

Didn't they open the season with LCA? They didn't no-hit them. I know there pitching is as advertised because I think they are the team to beat just wondering which teams they have no-hit and 1 hit. Also do you think hitting will be their downfall because it seems they have struggled against quality pitching?

St X staff has thrown 4 striaght shut outs against South Oldham, Owensboro Catholic, Perry Meridian (IN), and Bullet East. Tougher challenge at Lex Cath on Thursday

I heard Dan McDonald, the coach at U of L, on the radio in an interview. He was complimented about his pitching staff. He said that pitching is very important to win games, but it also takes producing runs and making plays.

I believe that the St. X pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in the LCA game. They were up 3-1 late in the game. Making plays in that first game had a role in giving up 3 runs. Yet it seems in high school baseball, consistency can be difficult for any team. But I think the “one game and you’re out” of the high school playoff format makes for a lot of interesting games. St. X might be even harder to beat in a best 3 out of 5 format. Look at the NCAA basketball tournament. Who would have thought VCU or Butler would be in the final four?

I agree completely, well put. Like many have stated St.X is the favorite but you just never know when there is a 1 and out scenerio. Two years ago we had Owensboro in the finals with a .500 record, who saw that coming? Have to love high school sports!

I have been impressed so far with some of the scores from the Male games. I don't remember them putting up this many runs in the past. Definitely a team to watch out for I believe.

Clay County has a team of machines.........better come ready to play cause they certainly will!!!

I would have to say the Paul Lawerance Dubar would have to included in the conversation. We scrimmaged them Friday night and they have a super dandy pitching staff. I would say their top 4 pitchers are amoung the beat in the state.

Do you have any names on the Dunbar top 4 pitchers?

When St. X went to Alabama to play some games on spring break, the people in Huntsville, AL, said that the playoffs there were best 2 out of 3, not one and done.

If every playoff game was 2 out of 3 in Kentucky I don't think there would be anyway that St. X could be beat. They just have too much pitching. There are some other great teams around the state but they just don't boast the pitching depth to compete in a best of 3 showdown. I do like the one and done format that we use now for the sweet 16 instead of the former format where we had a best of 3 semi-state. I think the sweet 16 will bring more popularity to the sports state wide because fans will be able to see a wider range of players. I don't think the the quality of baseball players in this state get the recognization they deserve. But that is getting off topic.

Boone County should at least be mentioned. They have a good combo of Teegarden and Lauman on the mound. They play solid defense and find ways to score runs with speed and power. JMO
