#6 Tates Creek downs #14 Lafayette.

Lafayette played very poorly again last night....faced a 1-2-2 half court zone and had no offense vs. the zone.....no cutting, very few ball screens, no skip passes, just tried to penetrate the zone and kick out for shots or take a bad shot......had four turnovers trying to inbounds the ball under their own basketball, just one screen on the inbounds play and it was over!! The two pure shooters on Lafayette's team had to struggle on their own to get shots off, no screening, no cutters, just one on one basketball against a zone defense....46 points in a varsity basketball game......unbelievable....they are now 1-5 and things are getting worse each and every game...players are getting frustrated and should be!!

What seems to be the problem at Lafayette?

They lost two good players from last year's team....need some structure in offensive sets...too much free lance basketball, can't survive with that type of play this year....need some coaching in all areas of the game....must happen soon or team will fall apart!!

Shouldnt they fall in the rankings at 1-5 ?

Yes....definitely......not even in the top 50 in the state!!

Problem is guard play, the point guard they have is inexperienced at the varsity level. I also believe he is a freshman and also is very short. He can't see over the defense nor does he have any real good help at the two guard spot, and they don't get it in Jackson Davis' hands enough.

 

Yarborough is the only player that gets the ball and creates his own offense, he is a very good player. The shooters can't get their shot off unless they are wide open and very few screens are used to get them open. Their only real shot at scoring this year is if they get the ball into Davis or Yarborough's hands. Also lack of leadership on the team. Their play is unorganized chaos.

Yarborough is the point guard and handles the ball 90% of the time....two guards haven't gotten a chance to prove themselves because they have no offensive sets to get them shots...Napier and Trisko are excellent shooters, they just need more looks...Davis is taking more shots than anyone else on the team except Yarborough, and alot of times Davis's shot selection isn't good...role identification must happen with this team and that starts with the head coach....schedule doesn't get any easier, something must happen quickly!!
