Has anyone looked at teams impacted by realignment for the alternating home field advantage in Round 3 (Regional where same # seeds face) or Round 4 (Semi-State where it alternates regardless of seed)?

 

I think it is done based on ODD v. EVEN districts in Regions and ODD v. EVEN Regions in Semi-State as to who hosts in which year.

 

For example, this year, Highlands is "on the road" for both Round 3 and Round 4. Last year, they were "at home" for both Round 3 and Round 4. Does that change next year under the new realignment (e.g., they are "on the road" again for Round 3 or Round 4 next year)?

It would depend on their new dist # and region #.

This is an even year so even districts host 3rd rounds and the even regions host semi's.

Apparently, even numbered districts have priority in Round Three this year. If it should occur that equal seeds from two even numbered districts (or two odd numbered districts, for that matter) should meet in Round Three, the team from the higher number district would host. For instance, in 6A this year, if equal number seeds from both District 8 (Lexington) and District 6 (NKY) meet in Round Three, home field advantage goes to the team from District 8.

If so, they could theoretically be "on the road" for Rounds 3 &/or 4 2 years in a row. Perhaps not a big issue if you look at the long term, but if I am a current Junior and planned to be "at home" next year and have to go "on the road" for 1 or both of these games as a Senior, I might be disappointed.

 

The reverse ("at home" 2 years in a row) is obviously also possible.

Now trying to answer my own question, I *THINK* HHS is partially in this situation. In 2010, HHS was District 5, Region 3 (I'm pretty sure it's Region 3 but I can't find anything to confirm this). As such, HHS traveled in Round 3 and Round 4 because it was an even year.

 

In 2011, HHS moves to District 7 and, I assume, Region 4. If that is the case, the District 7 #1 seed would be home for a 3rd round matchup, but would travel for the 4th round matchup. Can anyone confirm?
