from Greenup County and Boyd County dropping them? Both 4A schools but less then top of the class teams dropped Raceland from their schedules. Is that a bad thing? Or, will Raceland come out on top? You decide.

Money-wise, no, Raceland doesn't benefit from Greenup and Boyd dropping them from their schedule. You just can't replace the attendance from the local games. Out of the teams you listed, which ones would bring big crowds to Raceland? Ashland doesn't play at Raceland. Paintsville, Nicholas, Pikeville, East Carter, West Carter, Lawrence, and Mason won't bring big crowds because they're either too far away or their programs don't have much support. That leaves 2 possible "standing room only" home games, Fairview and Russell. That's why I think it would be good to see them pick up Ironton or Wheelersburg if they could get them to sign up.

 

Competition-wise, though, yes, it looks like they've already filled out their schedule with tougher teams than Greenup and Boyd. Adding Lawrence is a boost. Keeping Russell is good. If they keep Ashland and pick up Mason County, then it's evident that the Rams aren't gunning for any record win totals...but it certainly would be a challenging schedule nonetheless. :-)

Actually aside from the obvious of a county rival drawing large interest along with the revenue that a GCHS game would bring I like this proposed setup. Lawrence as everyone knows is a top team in their district now, much better than Boyd or GC, probably a better football team than those two combined. As for the Ashland game/series I would hate to see that one end due to the competition and the great fans at both schools and respect shown but we do imo need a home game every other year. Should the Raceland adim. think that it would also be more profitable not to play at Ashland every year but from what I have heard is that playing at Ashland is still a very good money game for Raceland. Lawrence imo will bring more fans than some may think, they always used to travel well to support their team. Pikeville is quite a long trip but that could be a very good series drawing interest/attendance from outside just the two schools. Mason on the same schedule with Pikeville would make for a couple of very long drives for fans.

Whatever is decided there are two things that will happen for sure.....the sun will still rise everyday and Raceland will still be playing football with their fans behind them.

The drive to Mason isn't so bad - somewhere around 70 miles each way. Not sure about Pikeville.

That drive is alot better now with the AA. Actually, the last time that I was in Maysville was when the AA highway did not exist.

Can be to Pikeville in 2 hours.
