5A Oldham County (2-1) heads to Louisville to tangle with 6A Eastern on Friday. Should be a good matchup; Eastern won last year when Oldham missed a late FG to win...thoughts?

I'm pulling for OC but Eastern has a tough squad this year

Oldham County will be outclassed in this one

Could be - but this has historically always been a bit hard to predict, with the two teams playing semi-regularly over the past 11 seasons...

Last Year: Eastern 22, Oldham County 21 (Oldham missed a last second FG that would have won it)

2007 - Eastern 35, Oldham Co. 13

2006 - Oldham 40, Eastern 23

2005 - Eastern 35, Oldham Co 7

2002 - Eastern 6, Oldham Co 3 (double OT)

2001 - Eastern 14, Oldham Co 9

2000 - Oldham Co 7, Eastern 6

1999 - Oldham Co 21, Eastern 0

Since 1999, Eastern leads the series, 5-3, but three of Eastern's wins came by 5, 3, and 1 points. Both teams have won by 17+ points twice.

Eastern was more impressive in their loss (by 7 to Male) IMO than they were in their come-from-behind victory over Butler.

Oldham must control turnovers; the Colonels have been pretty good with the football since Matt Brown took over two years ago, but turnovers have frequently been the barometer of Oldham's success. Their lone loss this year came in an upset loss to Conner in which they coughed up the ball a number of times. Eastern does a good job of capitalizing on TOs; they scored twice on takeaways against Butler.

Critical for Oldham County will be the defense and how it handles Mr. Football candidate Jon Davis.

What has Oldham did so far this year?

Week 1 - upset at the hands of 6A Conner, 22-20. Colonels could have tied with a two point conversion that failed. Game the Colonels should not have lost, outgaining the Cougars by a bundle and moving the ball pretty easily. But the Colonels were their own worst enemy with turnovers - including a couple of dreaded "unforced" turnovers when the ballcarriers simply lost the handle while running (without getting hit).

Week 2 - easy win over Waggener. 48-6. Waggener is in a deep rebuilding mode and that was their first game of the season, but the Wildcats simply aren't ready to match up with the better 5A teams right now.

Week 3 - Surprisingly easy win over 4A power Fairdale. Fairdale, which expects their defense to be extremely powerful this year, loaded up against Oldham's running game, and the Colonels won it through the air. Instead, it was the Oldham defense that was the dominant "D", as Oldham won going away on the road, 41-12.

Even though Oldham has some tough opponents left on its schedule - Jeffersontown is 2-0 and will be solid this year; Anderson County could be very good, county rival South Oldham is 2-1 and improving dramatically, and 6A Scott County is also on the schedule - I would say that Eastern will be the toughest team Oldham will play this season. Important for the Colonels to come out and play well, win or lose.

Eagles look good, I pick them but I have not see Oldham Cty.

Oldham County has a nice team this year, but Eastern is just too big, strong, and fast for the Colonels:

Eastern 34 - Oldham County 14

Could be...but I just don't see Eastern as having improved that much over last year, and I think Oldham has.

Last year's score: Eastern 22, Oldham County 21 in OT...

I think it will be very close, either way...

Eastern had a lot of the same players last season, but the team chemistry was not there. The BIG difference for the Eagles this year is that they have an extra year's experience and their heads are screwed on straight, but then again that is JMHO.
