Garrard County will travel to West Jessamine on Thursday, September 2 looking to pick up their first victory of the season. The Lions, whose defense has surrendered 100 points in two games against Anderson County and East Jessamine, will be looking to slow down a Colts team that scored 56 points two weeks ago in their opener at Madison Southern.

Obviously Garrard County has struggled on the defensive side of the ball so far, but the offense has shown signs of progress through two games. The rushing game is generating 5.9 yards per carry, led by Cory Wilson who has rushed for 199 yards in two games, along with quarterback Billy Abney who has thrown for 240 yards and three scores.

West Jessamine fielded one of their best teams in recent memory last season, finishing 9-3. The Colts won the first playoff game in school history against Harrison County last year, before losing in the second round to eventual state champion Boyle County. Now the Colts have hired former Jessamine County Colt quarterback and more recent Woodford County assistant coach Graham Heasley to continue their successful run.

Certainly for the Lions to get their first victory it is imperative that the defense can stop West Jessamine. And the offense will need to be more productive in the first half than they have been the last two weeks. It should be a fun night in Nicholasville.

Note that the game will be played on Thursday night. It will also be televised by Wazoo Sports.

At West Jessamine High School in Nicholasville.

If Garrard can complete passes and get big plays they can win this game. They have to slow down West on offense.

Garrard County's defense is not very good. You can't win games if your team can't play defense. I'll take West Jessamine 42-21.

Good luck to your Lions GCHS...I'm not going to say who wins because every one I picked last week lost...and I don't wanna jinx em. I was at the game against East Jess. last week, I think that if you can get that defensive line to pick it up some, you have a pretty decent hitting secondary and might get things going as the season progresses. Number 1 for Garrard was a hard hitting fast moving player for your secondary and was very impressive last Friday.

You're right about the line. I believe the linebackers and secondary can be pretty solid. The problem with the line is they haven't been able to even slow anyone down or get any type of pressure. If they can improve on those two things a little bit, the defense should get a whole lot better.

And your line is young...they are mostly that group that would be sophomores that finished the eighth grade year with only one loss. Give 'em some time to season. Hopefully by districts they will be firing on all cylinders! Another good looking player was number 66. He has the build to be a beast, give him some experience to learn how to avoid getting washed on plays (I watched him several times) and I think he will be really good.:thumb:
