I think it was established on a previous thread that there was only a handful (less than 10) that received full athletic D1 schollys. The statistics don't lie. A very, very low percentage. Sort of reminds me of golf. Lots of very good "scratch" golfers, but there are only a handful that get their cards. If you receive a full athletic D1 scholly in any sport, you are in rare air.

 

This thread was about full rides for basketball which included D1, D2, and NAIA. No where in this thread did it say D1 full ride. Any full ride to a quality school is quite an accomplishment. Many thought this class would have a bunch.

 

Who else received full rides?

From what I understand of NCAA rules and eligibility, even though Ferg was a graduate with the Class of 2009... for all intents and purposes, he will be a freshman at Alderson-Broaddus this season, with three additional seasons to follow. He will compete this season and have four full seasons to play for the Battlers.

 

So yes... he could be considered a part of this class... but technically is a 2009 graduate. :thumb:

 

You guys can classify him wherever you think he fits.

 

Either way, I'm very proud of Ferg for getting back in the game and wish him nothing but the greatest success.

Student athletes have five consecutive years of athletic eligibility upon starting college, with only four years of actual competitive eligibility. This allows one year for a "red shirt" season due to injury or other considerations.

 

To the best of my understanding, Ferguson and others like him would have four of their five total years of eligibility remaining. So, barring injury or other incident, Ferg will be able to compete four seasons, just like a 2009 grad that was red shirted his first year.

 

Also, by transferring down a level (D-I to D-II) rather than up a level (D-II to D-I) or to another school at the same level (D-I to D-I) the rules requiring a student athlete to sit out a season do not apply.

 

I do not claim to be an authority on these matters, but since you asked, that is my understanding. :thumb:

So give or take a couple, we have 13-15 kids that accepted offers to play basketball at the college level and get their education paid. I don't know how many kids are in the 2010 senior class that played basketball, but this is a small percentage that earned a scholly. I hope all of these kids take seriously the opportunity that is in front of them....getting a quality education!

Cameron Hall, from Glasgow H.S., received a full academic/athletic scholarship to play for Campbellsville University, NAIA Div. 1 & Mid-South Conference (MSC) member. CU is a great fit for him, school size, a quality private school education and a great conference to compete in for the next 4 years. Congrats on the full ride.

Daniel O'Conner to Tusculum College on full ride D2 scholarship

Austin Flannery earned a full tuition scholarship to Asbury University.

 

Definitely a great accomplishment for a terrific kid.
