The Messex kid for Male is a stud. 4-4 with 4 2B's

Somebody impartial tell us if the intrference call that ended a big inning and took 2 runs off the board for Male was a good call. I was watching on the net feed and missed that play but the announcer said it was a terrible call.

Here is what the CJ had to say about it:

Male scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 6-2 and looked as if it might get much closer in the sixth.

Tanner Hobbs had an RBI single to pull the Bulldogs within 6-3 and a walk to Trey Simpson loaded the bases with one out. Zach Bynum then hit a chopper to shortstop Jared Martin, who forced out Simpson at second. Bynum beat the throw to first, and the Male runners from second and third appeared to score to make it 6-5.

But the second-base umpire ruled interference on Simpson at second, meaning Bynum was out at first and the score stayed at 6-3.

There are times you can be technically correct, and still be wrong. This may have been one of those times. In NFHS, you cannot in any way make contact with the fielder making a play if the contact is made beyond the base. The penalty if that is determined, especially if in judgement of umpire, prevents double play, is awarding of double play. Technically supported, but gets back to the age old argument, when is a foul a foul.

The umpire said Simpson "slid away from the bag, and he was kind of vague to tell you the truth," Driskell said. "That's life, and that's baseball. ... We had our chances, and that didn't beat us."

It was a close call, but a judgement call. The 2nd base umpire did not hesitate in making the call and he was watching the runner and fielder at 2nd base. I was not at the game and I saw it on the web, but couldn't tell from the camera angle. I know Doug Flynn was really questioning the call on the radio. Congrats to Male on a great season. Good luck Thorobreds tonight against an always tough Butler team.
