10th Region Tennis winners

Featured Replies

George Rogers Clark senior Chase Kindred won the singles title during the 10th Region Tournament Thursday afternoon at Georgetown College.

Kindred defeated Montgomery County’s Austin Colliver 6-1 and 6-3 in the semifinals. Kindred beat Drew Flyberger of Highlands 6-0 and 1-0 after Flyberger retired because of an illness. Kindred advances to the state tournament that will be played next week. As a team, the Cardinals placed third in the region.

On the girls side, the doubles duo of Kelsey Palmer and Makenzie Waltermire finished runner-up in the region and advanced to the state tournament. Overall, the Lady Cardinals finished as runner-up in the region.

You may want to check your local paper. I just knew how our kids did. Sorry.

The Highlands boys and girls teams won the region. Not sure if any of the boys were individual winners or not, but on the girls side 7th grader Meredith Laskey defeated her Junior sister Carrie in the finals. I believe that one of the girls doubles teams was a runner up. Meredith has now won the regional singles two years straight and last year advanced to the final 16 at the state tournament.

Thanks for the info

It still amazes me Highlands is in the same tennis region as GRC and Montgomery Co.!!

Great article on Chase today. States some things in the article that GRC fans knew about Chase, but others may not.

Chase Kindred’s first love was basketball. That changed when he picked up a tennis racket.

Kindred spent the past five years improving his skills and even skipped his junior year on the hardwood to focus on tennis. The hard work paid off when Kindred captured the regional singles title last week at Georgetown College. Kindred will take on Brad Merchant of Henry Clay to open the state tournament at 9 a.m. Thursday at the University of Kentucky. Merchant is a No. 9 seed in the tourney. It will be Kindred’s third appearance in the tourney.
