mcpapa Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 ...was held today. 85 degrees and a nice breeze; beautiful weather. Pawsat looked fairly comfortable at QB for the White side but was pressured quite a bit. Threw on the run a lot, which didn't detract from his accuracy very much. Josh Harris played QB for the Blue squad out of a Wildcat-type formation. One rushing TD and one passing. Team speed in the defensive backfield may be an issue this season with the graduation of Jones and Lang and a couple of OL and DL positions need to be filled. However, Coach B and his staff almost always have a knack for filling spots with quality kids. Somewhere around 40 dressed, which jibes with the numbers I've heard (45-50 out for spring ball, no freshmen or baseball players included). I believe Coach B said that the team would be visiting Highlands (7 on 7?) again this year, and that a scrimmage with Ashland was on the schedule; someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Playing that kind of competition in the preseason has to help you figure out what needs work. Football season is just around the corner. I CAN'T WAIT!
Ram Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Anymore on Harris, I really look for a lot out of him this season.
ChiefSmoke Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Spring Practice has been very good for Mason County football. We have been able to make up alot of ground since it was brought back in 1998. 7 on 7 is good, but having 10 days to put on pads, work fundamentals, especially blocking and tackling, is really what our kids and program need the most. We have 57 kids on the roster right now, grades 10-12. That is the most we have ever had out at this point. Once it gets hot, that number usually decreases substantially. But, it is great that the kids want to be part of our program and I hope every new player hangs in there and makes it to the season. I would rather not go into alot of detail on my thoughts right now but summarize it like this- great kids, outstanding assistant coaches, and alot of work to be done to have the kind of football team we want to be this fall.
beverlybubba Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Anymore on Harris, I really look for a lot out of him this season. He'll have another great season next year. He looked good as usual in the B/W game, fast and strong. I was encouraged by what I saw on the line offensively and defensively. It looks like they have some players that will step in and fill the holes well. Receiving looked better than I expected also even though Jordan Gilbert wasn't playing because of baseball. These guys will be tough again next year.

From what I saw last year, I would say their OL/DL should be in good hands. They have some nice looking linemen. Thanks for the info on Harris, I expect him to have a great year.
