Very poor overall performance by the Raiders in pretty much all aspects of the game. That being said, however, Brossart played well and deserved the win. They are a legit ball club and should make some serious noise in the All "A" tourney. The top half of their order hits very well and #15 (Travis Norton) was flat-out stroking the ball. They threw 3 solid pitchers tonight. Seems like every time I asked someone about one of their players, I was told they were a junior, sophomore, or freshman. If so, they are going to be very good for the next few years. Congrats to them.

 

Ryle was disappointing. 5, maybe 6 hits tonight. Hoskins took one yard (#1 of season) and he, Hempel, and DiceK doubled, but that was it. Not much from anyone else. A couple of critical errors, including a dropped fly ball in the top of 7th that allowed the two winning runs. Too many walks, wild pitches, poor hitting, poor fielding - frankly Ryle looked bad. Everyone has an off night and hopefully that's all it was for the Raiders tonight. Put it in the books and move on.

O'Bryan started and went 3 innings, Watson pitched 2 innings, and Isler pitched final 2 innings.

Mustangs beat Ryle 10-8.

Sophomore Zach Fardo got the start, Senior David Greis (3-0), threw 2 innings of relief) and was the winning pitcher. Ian Hehman and Brett Lockman pitched in relief.

Travis Norton 4-5, with four doubles, Fardo 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, T. Bezold 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI;

JV beat Ryle 8-6; Record 4-0

Frosh lost to CovCath 8-2; record 1-4

 

Mustangs off Thursday and Friday, will host Pendleton County at 10:30am on Saturday, followed by our JVs vs PCo.

I was impressed with Bishop Brossart when they played Cooper. Travis Norton is certainly on a roll and is a nice young man. His brother, Tanner, is very talented as well.

I know a good 15U team that is looking for a solid catcher. Anyone know if the younger Norton (who has a cannon, BTW) has already committed to a summer team?

He plays in Ohio for the Ohio Force. He played here in KY until last season. When he keeps his head on straight he is the best Freshman catcher in the area. One of the nicest swings you will see at his age.

I also came away impressed with Brossart...solid hitting at the top half of the line-up, well coached, good hustle. Norton is the real deal, sweet stroke, and his younger brother is impressive at 15. We do however need to keep in mind that they did not see any of Ryle's top four arms.

They had a lot of errors, their pitchers walked a lot of batters (I think they walked five batters in the first two innings) and there were several baserunning mistakes (twice they failed to tag from 3rd on sac flies and once a man on 2nd didn't score on a double). I'm glad they won, but Brossart can play better.

And Ryle can play a hundred times better. Brossart hit the ball very well last night. Their pitchers, save the walks from the lefty, pitched very well. Yes, they made a couple errors and a couple baserunning mistakes. Hard to get a perfectly played game in high school (or any level, for that matter) and I'm sure it's possible for them to play better. But mistakes included, they played well overall. As good as they are, they're not the '27 Yankees.
