Red Dog

Red Dog coached the 1976 LLoyd Juggernauts to the Class 3A Football Championship. What a football team this was David Smith, Mo Molitor, Mica Lockard, Kenny Costas, I have forgot alot of names what I do have form my father-in-law is a picture of Red Dog and John Miles (both RIP) John was the superintendant of Erl/Elsmere Schools. I have a program with all the players names, numbers and record for that year. If anyone ever saw a Football game it was 1976 Newport Catholic at Lloyd High the winner was Lloyd who went on and won the State Championshipa and if NewCath won they would have done same. I was fortunate to become a friend of Red Dog thru scouting for Lloyd later when he was a Highlands and we always made sure we talked at every game we went to Highlands. What a great man and human being. Sorry for jabbering on!!!!!!!!!! JD

I was playing against LLoyd my sophmore year at SK when they ran the Hook and Ladder right in front of me, but the RB dropped the ball on the pitch. When he picked the ball up I was right there to tackle him. That's when Red Dog came flying down the sideline yelling at the RB that if he had hands he would have himself a TD. I said something to the effect of "There was no way he was getting by me, Old Man!" That following winter he was named the head coach at SK. After he addressed the team for the first time, we had a little meet and greet line to introduce ourselves to him. As I shook his hand he looked me dead in the eye and said "I know who you are!" The "Old Man" had quite the memory.

Never feel bad for "jabbering on" about both a man who was considered great by many and more importantly a man who you thought was great because of the human impact he had on you personally.

I never met Red Dog but I think it is safe to say that with the impact he had on a lot of young men, this thread is the appropriate place for "jabbering on" :thumb:
