Where is Ft Campbell's High School?

Featured Replies

I was at Ft Campbell today and got to thinking about the school. Is it actually on the base?

Yes, it is on the base. Ft. Campbell is pretty much its own town, within the confines of fencing.

Yes, it is on the base.

To get onto the base I had to show a DL, registration, and proof of insurance. Does every fan coming to a game have to do that?

Yes, I believe so. I'm pretty sure all visitors have to do that, regardless of their reasons for being on the base.

I can't imagine driving there as a fan of the visiting team only to find out that I forgot my proof of insurance card.

I very well could be wrong, maybe one of our Ft. Campbell posters could answer for sure. I just know after 9/11, it became a much bigger deal to get on the base. Growing up, my husband and his father used to golf on base quite a bit. There used to be passes you could buy, but I don't know if they do that anymore.

A true funny story. One of my good friends is the wife of a (then) Air Force Major stationed at Ft. Campbell. She went into labor with their 3rd child in the early morning hours of October 15, 2001. My friends lived in Hopkinsville and had to drive to the hospital on base to deliver their baby girl. They were detained so long at the main gate that my friend thought she was going to have the baby in the car. She made it to the hospital, but just barely. My whole point is, they don't let just anybody through those gates! They have to know who you are and they know where you are at all times while you are on the premises.

Private security and not MPs are now in charge of manning the gates and its slightly easier to get on post if you have all of your stuff ready to go

I have gone to Ft. Campbell several times to watch Owensboro Catholic play. Yes, the field is on base, and it can be an ordeal to get past the gate. I don't recall exactly what information you need, but drivers license, proof of insurance, etc. sound familiar. You need to arrive earlier for the game as lines at the gate house can be quite long at times. And yes, it did get tougher to get on base after 9/11.

Several years ago, I had to go on base as an insurance adjuster, for damage to one of the soldier's housing units that was damaged by our insured a moving company. It was one of the hardest claims I ever had, simply trying to figure out how to get on base, and to whom to write a check. Quite an ordeal.

Gate 4 is the main gate to go thru. You are required to have everything that has been mentioned. Also, if people are traveling with you they should also have proof of id. When our football/basketball teams go there, all parents are informed what to take with them. Even parents who might be transporting equipment have to go the same procedure. The wait can be several minutes and it can be as long as an hour. I missed the first half of a freshmen football game once cause the line was extremely long. But I understand the security reasons and have no problem with it.

^ Actually, Gate Four is now military personnel only. Gate Three is the public entrance for sporting events. They changed this last year when they rebuilt the gates and roads.

I tried to enter gate 4 and would have been successful had I had my act together.

I did not know this...........LOL. But they come to us this year and I dont see me just going down there for a game anytime soon.
