Not at game but have been told Stowers slowed the ball way down and was tied in 3rd at 21 to 21. Boone pulled away from there. Good strategy from SK and with one more scoring option it could have been a whole lot different story. Wainscott did not play as suspected.

Boone Co. 10 11 11 15 47

Simon Kenton 8 8 11 6 33

Boone Co. (16-3) -- Fields 2, Davis 6, Shrout 9, Browning 5, Sandlin 3, Moss 22.

Simon Kenton (16-4) -- Ponzer 5, Stephenson 12, Pace 4, Brown 7, Blevins 5.

BC 10 11 11 15 - 47

SK 8 8 11 6 - 33

SK hit foul trouble late 3rd and that is not a good thing against Boone. Good coaching on Boone also. Isolate Brown with dbl team 1st half and then glue Davis on her in the 2nd half. Sandlin nose to nose with Stephenson and make the other 3 beat you.

SK had many chances to stay in this one only down by 5 at end of 3rd.

Some really good defensive plays in this one. (Panda) will understand...Brown randown Sandlin on a steal break and caught her at the board all ball and 3 steals.

IMO a couple SK players left it all on the floor and without Wainscott. Ponzer great "D" and speed all night. Brown-Ponzer-Stephenson stayed on floor all night. That is a tall order with the rotation Boone can muster.

You just cannot make mistakes when breaks come your way.

And your thoughts on Moss Ebrown?

And your thoughts on Moss Ebrown?

Heck of a player. Smooth and had the same expression on her face at the end as it was at the beginning. Actually, she was a little off tonight and missed a couple she doesn't usually miss. I know the 3 SK rotated underneath couldn't keep up with her.

Maybe we should begin calling her the "CAT." She glides in and out as quick as anyone I have seen. One second she is there the next she isn't! The box belongs to her! :notworthy:

I heard the game was slowed to a crawl in the first half. Did Nell not pressure the ball.

My thoughts on the game;

*Stowers had a good game plan by slowing the ball down. They got away from their game plan at times and it usually cost them a turnover. To answer your question Panda, there was one stretch towards the end of the first quarter that Stephenson dribbled the ball near the mid-court line for nearly two minutes. I heard Nell say, “oh just let her stand out there and dribble.”

*Boone jumped out to a 10-2 lead but SK came back with threes from Stephenson to go up 13-10.

*Nell was noticeably frustrated by this game tonight; at one point during a timeout argument with a ref, she pointed her index finger in the air and waved in it in a circular motion as the ref walked away.

*Boone had way more basketball talent than SK; maybe athletes as well but SK was right there. Although final score was a lead by 14, the game was closer than the final; at least in my opinion.

*The difference in the game was a stretch in the third quarter when SK made four straight turnovers after Boone pressure and then Boone went up by double digits to stay. Why in the world Boone didn’t pressure SK earlier in the game didn’t make sense to me.

*SK got the ball into Pace one time and Moss didn’t even challenge her; would have liked to have seen them try this a little more for that other scoring option Panda mentioned.

*Blevins and Pace played a solid game of defense on Moss. I think it was the third where Pace had two steals when they tried to get it into Moss. Maybe it was the SK defense but it seemed like Moss hit the go button when she wanted to; only thing she wasn’t pushing it every time down the floor.

*Finally, very fun game to watch. I was thinking without Wainscott that it could be a long night for SK. Congrats to both teams who are my faves to win their regions again.

Great game review D series. I almost came but didn't think it would be a close game. As usual, wrong!

Good job D-series. I tend to focus narrow in the SK games (for good reason.)

My thoughts on the game;

B]I heard Nell say, “oh just let her stand out there and dribble.”[/b]

She will only "chase/pressure" when it's necessary late in the game...never early in the game unless it's getting away from her. I've seen her let teams stand and dribble out a lot more than a couple of minutes while she stands and stares at the coach for not wanting to compete. Also, Boone has two really key player's so "delaying" the game actually play's into her hands especially in the 1st half because they stay rested and out of foul trouble.

NCC played a very slow game in the regional championship last season and I'm sure Stowers could see how it frustrates the heck out of Nell...and throws Boone completely out of sync.

This game is always a treat...too bad SK moved to the 8th...it's good for them, but bad for the 9th to lose them.

It is always frustrating for one of the teams when the other is very deliberate. I would bet that Nell's teams, over her tenure, have hardly, if ever, been on the deliberate side. But a coach owes it to his/her team to try and win within the rules. Isn't that competing. Showing your team that you have to adapt to overcome sometimes. The deliberate style helped the Rebel boys defeat Holmes last year and nearly got them to the state tournament by almost beating them in the region final with the same style. After those games, I recall hearing many fans say that was a great coaching move since Holmes wanted to play a more up-tempo style. I guess viewpoints change depending on who you want to win. Just a thought.

Stowers is right up there with the best of them and he played it absolutely "perfectly" and gave his team a chance to win. Yes, it's pretty obvious that viewpoints change with who ya want to win and stalling is definitely a part of the game.

I agree. In fact I see that as no different a strategy than isolating and dbl teaming etc. There is no difference in slowing down the game and on the other side with Wainscott on the bench Nell dbl teaming (isolating) Brown. She forces the rest of the team to produce their norm AND 30+ lost points. All part of the game.
