In some instances middle school athletes play up because they are specially, but in a greater number of instances it is due to a lack of talent that exists amongst the older players in the program, so they get their "early" minutes by default. With the "studs," they go on to possibly be dominant players, but the majority of the girls mature early and plateau out.
