November 23, 200916 yr Doesn't Wayne County start 4 7th graders? Who was better Knox or Wayne? I believe Knox starts 3-4 7th graders as well. Can anyone challenge Southern in the 8th grade division? I think Southern has a chance to run the table and go undefeated.:thumb:

I think Southern has a chance to run the table and go undefeated.:thumb: Big tournament at Betsy Layne this weekend with Southern, Hazard, Lex Cath, Sebastian, Betsy Layne, Johnson County, Mullins, Dorton, South Floyd and Wesley Christian. Double elimination, all games played on Saturday. They should have called it the Iron Man tourney.

I expect them to have a few losses along the way. Both Wayne 7th and Knox 7th are good at what they do. Wayne is the smarter more basketball savvy team, but Knox is the more physical team.

November 29, 200916 yr Author Southern went to far Eastern Ky and played in the Betsy Layne Classic. This tournament was loaded with some of the best teams in the state (Southern, Johnson Central, Hazard, Betsy Layne, Sebastian, Dorton, Lexington Catholic, South Floyd, Mullins, and Weslyan??). Southern was missing their 2 big men due to the middle school football all star game at Ky State but still managed to go 2-1. Southern beat Dorton Middle 51-35 in the first game. Cody Belter 6'9'' for Dorton had 25 points and Ryan Dishman led Southern with 18. The second game was a great match up between Southern and Johnson Central. This game came down to the wire but Southern pulled out the win 34-32. The play of the tournament was in this game when 6'4'' Shane Hall threw down a monster two handed dunk and the whole arena went nuts. The third game was the finals of the winners bracket which had Southern facing Betsy Layne. Southern came out slow in this game and Betsy Layne took advantage of it. Betsy Layne took the lead and never gave it up winning 61-50. Ryan Dishman for Southern had a season high 33 points in the losing effort. Southern's record improves to 12-1. Due to the length of the drive for Southern and the amount of time the tournament was behind, Southern had to pull out before finishing. Johnson Central came back to win the Betsy Layne Classic. Congratulations to Johnson Central and I look forward to seeing all of these teams again come February in the Middle School State Tournament at the KBA.
