The field doesn't seem to be as strong as it usually is. LexCath, Clark Co, and Trinity should be the 3 best teams in the tournament.

Disagree, you have teams #2 and #3 from a very strong 9th region this year, teams #1 and #2 from the top heavy 12th along with Male, Scott, Grayson Co., and some other quality squads. Nothing spectacular but given that no Lexington city schools could be in it, the only teams I think would really elevate this tournament past the quality of the field right now would be Scott Co. or Holmes. I think it should be a very interesting tournament.

I agree with you. The right side of the bracket is a very strong field. Catholic should come out of the left side.

Beware of the Highlands Bluebirds, they are loaded this year and poised to knock off Holmes in the 9th Region. Led by Steve Kowolonek and 7 other SR's who have logged numerous minutes over the past 3 seasons they could be the sleeper in this one.

I already have them on my Radar. Mike Flynn will do a great job there.

When I said there usually is a stronger field, it seems a lot of times there is a good out of state team or 2. It is a very good field, just not their strongest.

Those were the days when Danny Haney was the coach at Catholic. Since then we have seen less, to no out of state teams.

 

Still it is one of the best tourneys in the state to be invited to.

Coach Flynn eats and sleeps basketball for sure, I gather that just from chatting with him. He seems very knowledgable of every program in the state and that is from the top teams to the worst teams. I think team chemistry and good coaching goes a long way and the Birds dont have any legitimate D-1 players but they have several players that could be playing at the D-2 or D-3 level next year. We shall see though.

I have known Coach Flynn when he coached at Ashland and Bourbon Co. I have the up most respect for him. Look for Highlands to make some noise this year. I know I will be keeping up with them.

 

Are you going to the GRC vs Holmes scrimmage? Don't know what to expect? Last year we got blasted in our two scrimmages. Two teams that went on to the Sweet 16, Elliott Co and Corbin. Coach used this time to experiment with different combinations.

 

I think you will appreciate this GRC team off and on the court...classy all the way.

Miss seeing Haney on the sidelines of LC. Tourney has kind of lost its luster since Haney left.
