ColonelMike Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Jtown 3 and out to start game...Oldham County scored on long, time-consuming drive the first-time they get the ball...when Jtown gets the ball back, they throw a pick that is returned for a touchdown. 14-0, Oldham, and Jeffersontown has run only 4 plays from scrimmage. Could have been much worse for Jeffersontown; Oldham dominated this one.
ColonelMike Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 District standings: Oldham County 2-0 Anderson County 2-0 Jeffersontown 1-2 South Oldham 1-2 Grant County 0-2 Oldham vs. Anderson in two weeks will settle the district crown. Game to be in Buckner. Jtown gets 3rd by virtue of win over South so long as the two remain tied.... South clinches fourth thanks to win tonight over Grant County. Jtown yet to play Grant County... South has yet to play Anderson County. Oldham yet to play Grant. In theory, Grant can force a three-way tie with Jtown and South by beating Oldham next week, but that would seem to be a real long-shot. Projected finish: Oldham County or Anderson County 4-0 Oldham County or Anderson County 3-1 Jeffersontown 2-2 South Oldham 1-3 Grant County 0-4
BigCatDaddy Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Oldham has a shot to knock of Anderson...this will be one to watch!
ColonelMike Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 It would seem that the district championship will likely be decided on 10/23/09 in Buckner when Anderson County visits Oldham County. I'm looking forward to broadcasting that game - it'll be a lot fun. Oldham plays Grant County next week and Anderson plays South Oldham, but you'd think the Colonels and Bearcats should win those games, barring a major upset. Against Jtown, Oldham's first string defense didn't allow a point; Jtown's touchdowns came on a kickoff return to make it 28-7 in the third quarter and a touchdown with 3:30 left in the game against Oldham's subs. Very impressive, considering the explosive nature of the Charger offense. Oldham gained over 300 yards rushing vs. Jtown...

I agree...Grant beating Oldham would be a long-shot. However, couldn't a three way tie also be created by Grant beating Jtown the week after? That would give South, Grant and Jtown all 1 victory. What is the tie-breaking process, since head-to-head is not possible?

What is the tie-breaking process, since head-to-head is not possible? A three-way tie could be created for third place between Jtown, Grant, and South if Grant defeats Jtown and all three finish 1-3 in the district (assuming no upsets here, such as Grant over Oldham or South over Anderson). The way you break a three way tie such as this is to add the WINS REGISTERED by each NON-DISTRICT team that each squad has BEATEN. So...in the current situation, Grant would have the upper hand in case of a three-way tie. Grant County has defeated Owen (2 wins), Walton-Verona (1), and Bourbon County (4) = total 7 Jeffersontown has defeated North Oldham (4 wins), Waggener (1), and Iroquois (0) - total 5 South Oldham has defeated Waggener (1 win) = total 1 South, with one non-district game left vs. Owen County (2 wins) likely cannot catch the other two teams...Jeffersontown has a great opportunity to help themselves avoid tiebreaker issues with matchup against 6-1 Valley and 2 win Eastern still to come. Grant's only remaining non-district game can also help them - West Jessamine is 7-0. But in today's world, as of now: If Grant wins over Jtown, Grant likely takes third and Jeffersontown fourth. If Jeffersontown beats Grant, Jeffersontown takes third and South Oldham fourth. Again, assuming no upsets this week when Grant plays Oldham and South plays Anderson. So the Grant vs. Jeffersontown game will
CoachJ Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Mike- I think the rule is actually "all teams in the 3-way tie get as 'points' the wins of ANY FOUR teams they've beaten other than a team involved in the 3-way-tie" -- so, I think you could theoretically even use a team you've beaten IN-DISTRICT so long as they're not one of the 3 involved in the tie.

Thanks for the clarification, CoachJ. Thought it was purely non-district foes. 'preciate it! :thumb:
CoachJ Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 No problem. Have been through the 3-way tie thing a few times and know from experience it's kind of 'cloudy language' to have to interpret.
