I believe coach Faust gets inducted into the Northern Ky. Hall of Fame in Villa Hills tonight. A tribute to his great coaching and his athletic prowess as a high schooler! Congrats!

Junior Zach Barnett. The kid shoots 80+% from the free throw line and can get there whenever he wants. Maybe 5'10" but scores inside and outside. Opposing coaches will have to account, and maybe even game plan for him, which will open up scoring for Bessler, Anderson(IMO one of NKY's better all-around players), and the speedy Hils, who all can run like greyhounds the whole game. Will Gulla(out last year and maybe this year's Volz), could be as good a defender as Hils if healthy, and can score. Brian Carroll, a gifted "big man" at 6-3', could be the sleeper in the whole deal if he's on board.

Defensively, if your top player is a point guard through 4, he better have a good supporting cast because he won't be seeing the ball much.

IMO, St. Henry will be as good or better defensively, no-drop off with more-balanced scoring, and even more fun to watch. This team will lack size, might struggle vs Holmes, Highlands, Ryle and Boone's size, and may not have a "top ten" player. But they may have 3 or 4 in the top 40. They will be IN every game they play and Dave Faust will coach them into the regional tournament.

Congratulations to Coach Faust. Stihl thanks for the post on the Crusaders. had to chuckle a little when you called 6'3 the big man. I read some good posts that Barnett had a good summer and at 6'3 is Carroll their tallest player?

I think the freshmen might be taller--never seen him--doubtful that Coach Faust would bring him up from the start. Brian Carroll might be 6-3 1/2 with the right shoes. Bessler, 6'1" will score and rebound much taller, as will Anderson and Barnett. Dan Siefried(sp?), Louis Tobertge, and John Patula, although height challenged, are all strong, determined rebounders for their size, can finish putbacks and shoot free throws well.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I am optimistic, even excited. This will be a fast team with a good collective basketball IQ.

Height???? St Henry has no height and really hasn't in quite some time. 6'3" sounds about right and is about the same size as Zumdick last year. There is a sophmore named Dedden, brother of Zach Dedden who started in the middle 2yrs ago, who has some height I believe and played some JV last year as a freshman, but I don't think he's ready yet to be playing a lot of varsity. Funny thing is when I was at St. Henry almost our entire team was 6'3" or taller. 3guys were taller than 6'5". Whats in the water at these feeder schools nowdays?

When did St. Henry have 3 guys over 6'5''?

St. Henry may have had the tallest team in the state in like '95, with Jamie Eichorst, Michael Vieth & (maybe) one more guy who was pushing 6'10''.

Does St. Henry have any scrimmages coming up? It would be interesting to hear how Barnett and Carroll perform and see how much that maybe Anderson, Bessler and Hils have improved over the summer. Sounds like a typical St. Henry team of late very well coached that will be fast and get after you on defense.

When did St. Henry have 3 guys over 6'5''?

2000 and 2001

2000 and 2001

Was Jimmy Smith one? I don't remember 3 guys being over 6'5''...

Nonetheless, the point remains that St. Henry is small (again) this year.

ColonelCrazy I guess we will see how St.Henry is early in the year as they play the Colonels the first week of the season.

If the Crusaders coach can get Barnett to go to the rim to open up his shot, he will be dangerous. Barnett can light it up coming off those wing screens. I look for the junior Barnett to have a real good year, which will help St. Henry.

Did Mashinot leave the Colonels team?

Anderson and Hils are two-sport athletes, Bessler three(hoops, x-country,outstanding at volleyball). That's why they are at St. Henry instead of playing at schools where coaches might have hinted they decide at age 13 to give up other sports. Or for AAU coaches who would have required the same. Anderson played a few summer tournaments with some of the CovCath kids. Barnett was hot and heavy and Carroll may have played somewhere. Other than those few, no year-rounders.

What school hinted that they'd have to give up other sports when they were in 7th or 8th grade?

At St. Henry, they probably only have the option of going to Boone, Covington Catholic, Villa or SHDHS, right?

Does SHDHS have a male volleyball team?

Im sure he's referring to schools that have football. Its an untrue statement about schools hinting to play 1 sport. In the past there was more truth to that than now, especially at Boone and CovCath. I think each varsity coach no matter what sport, believes his sport comes first when in season. Thats where those untrue rumors fly about coaches telling kids to only play bball or football.

Its also an untrue statement on why Anderson, Hils, and Bessler are at St. Henry. I know the families very well and the reason they are there is because they want the kids to get a good education at a good school. The 3 boys we talk about all wanted to go to St. Henry for many reasons (educations, good coaches, good people). Not because they can play more than 1 sport. Thats not a reason at all.

Yes I believe St. Henry started the male volleyball team last year. They play in the spring vs many OHIO teams I believe. Bessler is quite the athlete. I can't imagine how good he'd be on the football field, especially at a WR slot position. The kid can fly.
