After a bye week Garrard County will return to action this Friday to start district play with rival Wayne County. Garrard County has lost two straight games by one point each while Wayne County has yet to crack the win column in four tries. The winner of this game will take a big step toward a first round home playoff game.

 

Garrard County fell to Estill County two weeks ago by a score of 42-41 after the Engineers converted a two-point attempt late. The Lions have struggled to tackle at times this season and as a result are allowing 34.5 points per game. Wayne County has had some of the same struggles and are allowing 35.5 points per game.

 

On offense the Golden Lions have been either feast or famine so far scoring 41 one two occasions, while having two games of 10 and 13 points. On average Garrard is putting up 26.3 points per game. Wayne County has struggled on offense so far, but the numbers have improved as the season has progressed. The Cardinals had their best offensive output last weekend when they scored 34 points at Russell County. On the season Wayne is scoring 13.8 point per game.

 

Garrard and Wayne have no common opponents as of yet this season, and their opponents have nearly identical records - Wayne's opponents are 13-4 while Garrard's are 13-5.

 

Garrard and Wayne have long been football rivals and will be playing each other for the 19th time. Only seven other schools have played more games against Garrard County than has Wayne County. The Lions have proven they can score points, but they haven't yet been able to successfully stop a good running game. Wayne's strength is a strong running game led by D.J. Hall. If the Lions can slow Hall, they can win the game. If not, then it could swing to the Cardinals. Expect a close one Friday in Lancaster - with Garrard and Wayne it almost always is!

I am going with Garrard! Wayne just can't get it together this year being plagued by injury and illness!! If this team can find it in their hearts they could be very good, but can they find it? That remains to be seen...:confused:

Wayne's offense seemed to get untracked last week but their defense gave up 50 to a very, very young Russell County offense. Garrard's offense is better than the Lakers, but since the Lions defense can't seem to tackle anyone this will be a shootout. Garrard has the better offense and is at home. I'll take the Golden Lions 46-39.
