I am interested in learning some of the "academic/social" reasons that a family would choose to move their child from Ryle to Boone.

 

Could you (or anyone else) name a few reasons?

 

I guess for the same reasons people would move their child from Boone to Ryle or Cooper or Conner. As stated above, these matters are private so that info would have to come from those family's.

As I have lived in Boone County most of my adult life, and have attended a Board of Education Meeting or two before, I have heard time after time after time of how if you live in a certain area you attend a certain Boone County HS.

 

Now over the years that rule has been strictly enforced but now all of a sudden I am hearing about one young man (via the paper) changing schools and more than just one time also, and now another (via BGP's) a student going from school to school (and if it is true) without moving into the schools district, yes I am questioning what is going on.

 

If the Boone County Board of Education would choose to allow the students to do what the Kenton County Board of Education does in allowing a open enrollment, than I for one would have no problem with it but it seems that only certain kids are being allow to get by the rules enforced upon others and it's just seems strange to me.

Is it certain students or certain coaches who have the inside track? Seems to me Nell gets more than her fair share of transfers.

I could understand moving to Notre Dame or Villa Madonna for academic/religious reasons. Maybe even St. Henry. But not Boone.

Is it certain students or certain coaches who have the inside track? Seems to me Nell gets more than her fair share of transfers.

 

It would be interesting to see how many years you would have to go back in order to find a team that she didn't have at least one transfer on the team.

There's nothing wrong with Boone. I don't think there's a massive academic gap between Ryle & Boone. Socially, I would have to say Boone is probably by far the most diverse school in the County; however, I don't have numbers to back that up. Hopefully the kid will thrive in her new environment...

My guess, only a guess, is there were/are probably more transfers at the other BC schools than at Boone over the past 3 or 4 years, but they weren't impact or high profile player's so they aren't discussed. I could be wrong.

So we know of two and both are high profile sport stars and they can transfer to the HS of their choice but poor little Billy, who just wanted to stay at Ryle to be with his friends can't, well because he is just a regular student.

 

Now I knew of a couple of kids in my neighborhood, back quite a few years ago when my neighborhood went from Conner to Boone and those kids and parents tried like heck to keep their kids at Conner but no they had to go to Boone. No pleading, begging helped, it was your going to Boone.

 

I am also sure there were many who were Freshmen or Sophomores who attended Ryle and who wanted to stay at Ryle but then again they were just your average every day student, so nope, they had to move.

 

I no longer have a child that could or couldn't attend a Boone County School, but it just seems fair is fair. If the BCBOE is going to allow some to choose their schools no matter what the reason, then open up the District to open enrollment and allow everyone to choose where they want to send their child to HS school at.

 

Seems to be working great in Kenton County.

Obviously without mentioning names can you give examples of situations that the BOE would use to allow a student to go outside of their district?

Is all of this subject to open records? I would be interested to hear how the KHSAA justified their decision along with the BCBOE.

 

Also, when is the last time the KHSAA made such a quick decision? They are notorious for waiting until the season starts to decide.

 

How was Michael Mitchell ruled ineligible when he moved but she is eligible and did not move?

I have always wondered how the BC BOE can dictate which school you go.

 

I mean I pay taxes to the Boone County School System not Conner, Ryle, Boone or Cooper districts.

Boone County High School has more teachers with advanced degrees than any of the other 3 Boone County Hiigh Schools. The AP classes are there and available with the personnel to teach them. The challenge at Boone are the families with financial struggles and single parents that can't manage their childs every move which in return brings academic averages down slightly but believe me if a student wants a good education the classes and teachers are there.

Some of these students just don't get the guidance that dual income and married parents can provide. This is why I commend the students that take advantage of their resources all on their own without Mommy and Daddy telling them to do it.

An overall average doesn't dictate what's available academically.

How green is the grass "really?" If hard work and no BS is a problem for a player, Nell, Dawn, and Stowers are not the people to be playing for. Oliverio coached with Nell so this will be interesting. I watched some summer ball and things didn't seem to be really clear. How green is the grass "really?"

Other than highlighting the "fact" that Boone County High School is an academic sleeping giant, I'm not sure what your point might be.

 

Are you suggesting this family chose to transfer due to the fact that Boone offers AP classes that Ryle doesn't?

So, I have a question for you (or anyone else that might know).

 

How many years has it been since Boone DID NOT have at least one transfer student on the team?

 

I know they have a minimum of a six year stretch going on right now.
