Tight game tonight in Lancaster. West Jessamine scored early to make it 7-0. West scored again to start the third quarter to push the lead to 14-0. Garrard's Dylan Naylor returned a fumble 72 yards for the Lions first score, making it 14-7. Garrard then went to the wildcat formation in the fourth quarter and Tyler Ray scored to make it 14-13. Unfortunately, the extra point was missed. Looked like a bad snap, followed by a tough hold, and then a missed kick. That finished it for Garrard.

 

The Colts managed the clock well all night and were successful running the ball, but struggled to finish against Garrard. They aren't flashy and are very one-dimensional, but what they do they do really well.

 

Garrard had almost no offense in the first half and third quarter. Going to the spread/wildcat more in the fourth quarter helped Garrard move the ball better, but it wasn't enough. It seemed like everything Garrard tried tonight was stonewalled by West.

 

Lions drop to 1-2 and head for Estill County next weekend. West Jessamine continues their impressive start, moving to 3-0. The Colts will face Spencer County next week.

Why is it that every team that I pick in tight games are always on the short end of tight scores when the game concludes???? :cry: :ohbrother: :cry:

This score surprises me, I thought Garrard would take care of West.

Garrard played hard and never quit. It seemed that WJ was just the better team. Their line is HUGE, I mean HUGE!!! But Garrard never quit and was 1 PAT from being in OT with WJ. This is a very young Garrard team who will just get better. I think they move to 2-2 next week with a much needed win. But the future looks bright for the Lions.

I thought so too. But West ran the ball well and controlled the clock all night. I think time of possession was something like 36-12!

I agree. West was just a little better. If Garrard makes the PAT then it's tied and West might have had to alter their offense to look to score. As it was, they basically had to just run out the clock.
