Is every school in Kentucky having two-a-days now, or is there a time period when it has to be done and the school can choose which week to have it?

Sec. 5) Sports Specific Limitations -

Football - Boys

 

(1) Organized non-contact practice shall not begin prior to

 

July 15. During this non-contact period, a helmet,

shoulder pads and shoes are the only football

 

equipment that may be worn.

The first date of practice in

full pads shall be the earlier of seven (7) week days (not

 

counting Saturdays and Sundays) prior to the opening

day of school (which shall defined as the day prior to the

classes starting for the student body) or August 1 but

under no circumstances shall be prior to the fourth

Friday before the first regular season playing date. After

contact practice (practice in pads) has begun and prior

to the first day of classes for the students, no school

may conduct multiple on-field practice sessions in pads

(e.g., two-a-days or three-a-days) on consecutive days

(e.g., two-one two-one format). After the opening dayl of

the school year, no school may conduct multiple on-field

practice sessions in pads (e.g., two-a-days or three-adays)

on a day in which school is in session. All schools

shall submit all required documentation to verify the

proper execution of the practice regulations, including

scrimmage, contact, and heat/safety regulations.

 

 

We (Western) have been in 2-a-days since the 1st day (we didn't start until July 20) and will continue until the day before our 1st day of school (Aug. 12). Although our's is a little different. We come in at 8AM and lift, run and hit some special teams, sending the players home at 10AM. We come back at 7PM where we do football only until 8:30PM. Getting the running part in early makes the players seem more fresh for the "football" part of practice in the evening. They seem to go harder knowing they don't have to run after the evening practice.

I know this is off the subject, but I also know that you did a lot of work on the history of the high schools in Jefferson County, and used to have a fabulous website with all the information. I can't seem to find it now. Is this info still available anywhere?

Some schools just get all the practice done early before its hot and have eliminated 2-a-days

Thanks for the heads up on the rules. Fort Campbell officially starts school on 6 AUG and are on their second day of two-a-days.

There's a twist for the year round school supporters - let all the football fans know they can start two-a-days earlier if they start school earlier...

I drove by last night, Tilghman was still in helmets only, starting @ about 5:30-6 and ending about 8:30. Just one practice a day.
