The brackets are online for the Bluegrass State Games beginning July 31st in Lexington. They are at the link below. Looks like some quality teams are taking part.

Who are the favorites??

Well NCC is the defending Varsity Champion so I think that they have to be considered a favorite , but very link I opened up about the pools was from last year .

Correct pools are at the top of the page. The pools from last year are near the bottom. Looks like NCC gets a favorable draw and can go far in the Gold bracket. Maybe a tough test from Marshall Cty in round 2 of the Gold. They were pretty good last year and not sure what they still have. Then NCC could go up against Greenwood. They were tough last year as well, but I think they had a lot of seniors, like NCC.

It may be Louisville Holy Cross' tourney. They look like a favorite to me with the draw.

I think Scott will surprise some people. If they have O'Conner, Tibbs and Romito they will do well. Not sure if there is basketball this weekend too.

NCC lost 3 DI college players and a D3 player as well. They will have a tough time winning it all since they are a completely different team.

Good luck to the Breds in the tourney this yr. Iam going to miss being part of the program. Go BREDS!

Why are all the high shools not playing in the Bluegrass games? I don't see St. Henry or Notre Dame mentioned on the brackets or any of the big Louisville volleyball schools. Just curious

Most matches will be at KBA (Kentucky Basketball Academy). SHDHS and NDA not in the tourney nor are the Big Lville schools. This tourney not taken in by those large named schools. However, some are there. Louisville Butler and Lousiville Holy Cross are there. There are a large number of teams that played in the State Tourney last season.

The reason NCC is in the Bluegrass Games is because the tournament doesn't count against the match or scrimmage limits set by the KHSAA. This is a great way to try different lineups and plays. It's a freebie!!!!!

If that is the case, wouldn't it make sense for all the schools to play in it? Or, do the more 'dominate' (I don't know what word I am looking for here) schools feel they can get more out of a practice?

According to the KHSAA '08 Bluegrass Games there were approximately 15 teams participating in the tourney. There are 72 Varsity teams participating this year. What a huge turnout for the tourney this year!!

Incorrect on my behalf about the number of participating teams in the BGSG. Sorry about the mix-up on the tourney. Checking out Bluegrass INV. instead of BGSG participants. Still looks like several more schools have decided to attend this tourney this year. Glad to see more schools interested in this tournament.
