Corbin 2009/2010

Featured Replies

What does Corbin need to do to improve in 2009/2010? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

They will have a good chance to win the region again next season. They have three starters back and had a really good JV team last year.

Agreed but depth may be an issue.

With Crawford and Smith gone it will be a huge loss, but I think Coach P. and the Hounds will find a way to defend the Region title!

Who will fill out the lineup after Wilson, Smith, Johnson and Manns?

It seemed like Corbin had a lot of smaller guards in the JV group.

Will any freshmen make the varsity next year?

I would say, Josh Hopkins 6'5 will join the four you mentioned HDE. Luke Stewart 6'3 senior will also battle for starting time and will play big minutes IMO. After that it will be up for grabs. Coach P normally like to have 7 to 8 guys he can go to so I am sure over the summer he will groom a couple more players for the rotation. I doubt any incoming 9th graders will dress varsity. The Hounds only dressed two last and one of those was Travis Smith who saw lots of varsity action. But you never know who will be around come basketball season.

Smith will be out until some time in November, so there will be an opportunity for someone to make a move for playing time this summer. I would think that they will need to find some help in the backcourt, Hopkins and Stewart(as Bubba stated)will more than likely get the PT at the #4 and #5 spots.

G-Wilson 5'9

G-Johnson 6'4

G-Smith 6'3

F-Hopkins 6'5

C-Manns 6'4

Bench: Stewart 6'3, Freeman 5'9, Jones 5'10, Taylor 6'0

F-Hopkins 6'5

C-Manns 6'4

There is not really enough quickness in that lineup to play Corbin's usual man to man defense. Not sure how much Manns and Hopkins will be able to play at the same time since both will have to guard the opponents post player. T. Smith played the 4 spot last year and Johnson the wing, although Smith if healthy could possibly play the 2 or 3 spot. Johnson would really have to improve his ballhandling to play the 2 spot, they will need him more on the inside this year after losing Crawford and J. Smith's rebounding and I would expect him to help the team more at the 4 spot this year. I'm not sure how much Freeman, Jones and Taylor will contribute other than spot minutes.

W - T. Smith(hopefully)

The Hounds will have the ability to go with a big lineup or a small, quick lineup.

Hopkins will play the 3, 4, and 5, but mostly the 4. Manns will play almost every minute, at the Center position. Johnson's ball handling IS good enough to play the 2 spot. Wilson will be handling the ball most of the time.

Didn't a good player from South transfer to Corbin? I hear he's a player that could help Corbin.

6'1'' Junior, Hunter Sizemore. IMO, He should be the 2nd-4th option off the bench.
