As for the Louisville Select team, they should have had a team competing in the D1 as well- they have two teams- a red and a black. Red ususally plays at the higher level unless they changed things around.

 

I noticed that there are more teams playing at the D2 level than at the D1 level, at least that was the case with the 11U groups this year. Was it the same for the 12U's? Not sure why that is the case.....

Yes, there were more in D2 than D1. Not sure on Cann's number. I know she is a tall( 5'9 maybe?) shooter. As far as names go, i do not feel comfortable disussing names of 12-13 yr old kids in a public forum. I could PM you if you like.

We've played Anderson 12u, Larue Co., Jaguars. They are all very talented teams with very good players. They all have bright futures. I've also had the pleasure of watching some of the BCK players play from the 12u team. Girls high school basketball in the next few years will be at another level with all of the talent coming up in these younger groups. I also have to mention The Northern Kentucky Lady Tarheels in this conversation. They are formerly the Northern Kentucky Longhorns. They are now 11U and have won the state 4 times (9u and 10u D2-2007, 10u D1-2008, and 11u D1-2009). This team also has some very good players.

D1 and D2 mean nothing really. Most of these teams do not go on to play in the national event. Actually one could argue that D2 is MORE competitive then D1, especially at the younger levels. The Louisville select Red team was the only D1 team that was better then the 4 or 5 best D2 teams (at least in the 12's). Anderson played the Jaguars and Blast team the follwing weekend at the Bluegrass open (the teams the finished 2 and 3 in D1) and beat both of them by double digits. The D2 tournament is a better tournament because there are more teams that play D2 and while there is usually one D1 team above the rest, the quality of play is way better in D2.

 

 

The Cann girl for Anderson is #22. She played well in the state until the semi-final game against BCK. She was just out of gas. Anderson plays a frantic pace and she never comes out of the game. Hard to play 5 games in 2 days like that. I think she had something like 26 (with like 5 threes) in the game before. Her and Mckee are quite the duo......

 

As for AC..the future looks bright. I know those kids are setting their goals high. The neat thing is ALL those kids on their team are Anderson County kids....nice to see them competing with "all-star" teams.

The best team I have seen so far in the 12u is the West Virginia Thunder. On the season they are 32-3, have only played in the age group once where they won the Bloomington Super Regional,which qualified them for the national tourney in Kingsport, TN.

 

The team played in the Deep South Classic in North Carolina in the 13u age division and finished second to the Sportsvania Sting from Virginia. They lost in the finals by 2 points.

 

Recently,they competed in the Greater Cincinnati Classic in the 14u division. The Thunder went undefeated in pool play, and then ran the tables in the tourney against some really good competition.

 

Their state tourney is next weekend in Franklin,OH.

They beat the Blast by 4 points for the Championship - but beat them by 39 the previous day in pool play. The Select has won the 12U Div 1 AAU Championship 2 of the past 3 years. The Select 12U Red team only plays in the 12U age group in the State AAU tournament. In all other tournaments they will typically play either 13U or 14U depending on the strength of the event.

I know for a fact the Louisville Select did not win the Division I AAU National Championship 2 out of the past three years. For one, they cant play in the 12u division for 3 straight years unless you are bending the rules, and secondly GBL from California won last years 12u Division 1 Championship in Branson Missouri.

 

It will be interesting to see if the Louisville Select team is playing in the national tourney in Kingsport, TN in the D1 12u division.
