North Laurel moves to 8-12-1 on the year and Whitley County moves to 14-11. No doubt WC didn't throw there best with their big game on Monday coming up but NL didn't either as they have an even bigger game against Clay for their district tournament opener.

This score shocks me. WC has been up and down as of lately.

I don't understand why this score shocks you. North has the best eighth grader in the region starting in centerfield. The best freshman in the region starting at shortstop.

I am not sure who is playing SS for the Jags but I would agree on the best 8th grader. Marcus Carson is already performing at a high level and will just get better, ... and only an 8th grader (and a legit one at that).

This score surprised me, but didn't shock me. This NL team is very young, but is talented and has been up and down all year, .... often in the same game. This NL team tied Lex Cath and the very next night lost to Knox Central. This could be a very crazy postseason. Right now, I think that South Laurel and Clay HAVE to be the favorites to win it, but who knows. NL had a losing season in 2007, but got hot in the postseason and won the district & region for the first time in school history. That year, I thought for sure it would be Middlesboro or South Laurel, and boy was I wrong.

Carson is not a legit 8th grader, he is 15. Zach Storm is the SS and whether he is the best freshman in the region is left in the eye of the beholder. North has several talented frosh and one in particular has not been able to play due to an injury. He, in the eye of this beholder, is the best fresh catcher in the region. No one seems to know about him though but I expect they will eventually. Hopefully North can be ready to play on Monday, quiet the naysayers and gain some respect.

Will he be eligible to play as a senior? Yes. How is that not legit? If he was held back it was before middle school. My daughter has had classes with him since the 6th grade. Either way, Carson is a varsity starter as an 8th grader and will just get better. There aren't many players any quicker than him in the region, that's for sure. But he is not alone with the potential talent on this team.

I really believe that this North team (as is the case with many young teams) is like Forest Gump's box of chocolates, .... you never know what you are gonna get. If they are ready to play, they have proven they can compete. But if not this year, in the next 3 years, this will be a team to watch in the region.

You weren't that wrong. If SL and Middlesboro didn't play a 10 inning game, the winner would have had some pitching left over for the championship. It was obvious that they were the better teams. NL just got the luck of the draw and got to play Middlesboro after a marathon the night before.

Not in the postseason they weren't. NL won, you play the games you have to win and that was it. The real difference in the NL vs Middlesboro game was that the NL pitchers did a pretty good job in keeping the pitches down and keeping the Yellowjackets power in check. John Damron pitched as an 8th grader in that game, and had already beaten Middlesboro during the regular season then in the region. North beat M'boro 8-7 during the season at Whitley County and 8-6 in the regional title game at Bell County.

I gave the same argument in 2005 when SL won the basketball state title and others were saying that other teams were better than SL. However, you have to win to advance and that year, SL was the best team in the tournament by virtue of winning it. In the 2007 region, NL did that.

Carson held back in the 5th grade.....but he is very legit. He will be 18 when his senior year starts. Really enjoy watching him play baseball, he is a great talent.
