My son has attended a full contact camp every year for the past 6 years. I think contact camps are more beneficial then non-contact camps due to the fact that players get use what they are learning immediately, at game speed, instead of learning something, then trying to apply it three months later. Young kids especially, will not retain information that well, so applying it immediately helps in retention.

Pros:

Immediate use of new skills.

Extra contact.

Better conditioning.

Better practice.

Cons:

More expensive.

Greater chance of injury.

Harder to find a contact camp, I only know of one in the state for players younger then high school.

Best thing about full contact camps is the kids are introduced to hitting against other schools and talent levels besides their little buddies they play with, these camps normally get very intense with boys being competitive. I have had a few kids kind of have a coming out party at these camps.
