24smom Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Candace Gorby committed to Wilmington College in a ceremony held at Grant County High School May 6 and will be playing for Coach Jerry Scheve's Lady Quakers next season. Congrats to Candace! GCHS folks are so very proud & wish you luck as you continue your education at Wilmington. A great student with an amazing work ethic, the fortitude & determination you showed as you committed to play for the Lady Braves your senior season despite your knee injury was nothing short of amazing. There is no doubt that your best is yet to come! :dancingpa

24smom Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 the fortitude & determination you showed as you committed to play for the Lady Braves your senior season despite your knee injury was nothing short of amazing To clarify regarding Gorby after a few PM's! Candace played her entire Senior season with no ACL. She had torn her ACL midway through her junior season, had surgery & was back on the soccer field for her senior year at 100%. She planted her foot in a low spot in the field & tore her ACL again. For her, the second tear was bad luck, seemingly unrelated to the first injury. She chose to play basketball braced with no ACL (with her surgeon's OK!) & waited to have surgery after her senior basketball season. She has had her knee repaired & is on the way back to a full recovery, preparing to take to the court in Wilmington this fall!
24smom Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Quote from Grant County News article this week regarding Gorby's commitment: Wilmington coach Jerry Scheve believes the battles that Gorby has gone through, on and off the court, have made her a better player and she has a strong future with Wilmington. “Candace is an outstanding student-athlete who has the potential to do very well in our program,” Scheve said. “As a point guard, she knows how to run a basketball team and she will fit in well with our system of play. She is a competitor who has had to overcome a lot of adversity and that will make her a better player in the long run.” The entire article: http://www.grantky.com/cgi-bin/c2.cgi?195+article+Sports+20090513121843195195011

Soccer is the epitomy of evil for any high school athlete.
