Bethlehem beat Green County 7-3 today in the All A 5th Region championship, and will host 8th Region champ Carroll Co. at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Twenty or so years ago I would have known a little bit about the Panthers, but I've been away from the 8th Region area for so long, I'm lost.

 

Bethlehem is a solid, senior-laden club that is kind of feast or famine at the plate. Their hits usually come all at once, and can come from any spot in the lineup.

 

Top players for the Eagles include:

CF Seth Clark (cleanup hitter, also an RP)

2B Casey Robinson (leadoff hitter)

P/SS Tommy Manion (#3 hitter)

P/DH Nick Carrick (likely will start Wednesday)

RF Andrew Morris (#2 hitter)

C Brian Crabtree (solid stick and on defense)

 

Winner goes to Applebee's Park, where whoever emerges from the Somerset-9th Region sectional awaits.

I have no clue who this team is so I'm not going to give a prediction. But if there mostly a Senior squad then there going to be tuff.

But they also have 8 Juniors on the team so there still an very experienced ballclub.

I have seen Bethlehem play several games this year. They are fundamentally very solid. Pitching is good and defense better. What type of pitching does Carroll Co. have? They will probably need to hold Bethlehem to under 5 runs to win.

What are the rules on pitching for tournments as far as innings or rest?

The same as in the regular season I think.

I don't know about "having to hold them to under 5 runs" Carroll Co. can usually bust out quite a few runs if needed. There Pitchers aren't going to blow a fastball right by you but they hit there spots. Very good defense in the infield, and the center fielder as you would expect has the best arm on the team.

Actually three seniors - the third is Cody Boles who has been playing great defense in the outfield!

Pitching rules are the same for the entire year.

 

No more than 15 innings per rolling 7 day period.

Maximum of 9 innings per day.

 

Rest is as follows:

1-2 innings - none

3-5 innings - 1 day

6 innings - 2 days

7 or more innings - 3 days

 

Rest begins the day after you have thrown a pitch.

One pitch in an inning counts as an inning.

Good luck to CC! I suspect that CC and Bethlehem are pretty evenly matched but I will definitely give the edge to CC if Hendrick is pitching. We are supposed to play them this week but the weather will make the game questionable. Once again, good luck to Hendrick and his crew.

 

I didn't realize CC had so many juniors. They should be contenders next year also with a senior ball club.
