I'd put him behind Chris Paul as well...maybe others...

 

He's not even the Nuggets MVP, much less deserving of consideration for the MVP of the whole league.

Chauncey is by far the Nuggets MVP; I assume you would give it to Carmelo otherwise. Carmelo has had his best pro season with Billups as the PG. That isn't an accident. Chauncey's leadership and steady play has made this team more of a contender than they have ever been.

 

The reason why I wouldn't vote Paul is because I feel that the Nuggets are much more improved while I don't feel Paul has improved the Hornets from last season. The numbers may not bear this out in terms of wins and losses to any great extent, but the seeds in the playoffs do IMO. Billups has been more valuable this season, IMO.

Wade is superior in every stat and doesn't have a Mello to help him. Wade by far...

Let's not forget that there was a lot of talk about 'Melo really maturing over the summer from his experience in the olympics. I'm sure having Billups hasn't hurt, but he isn't the only reason, nor the biggest reason that Anthony is playing better.

What does this have to do with team MVP? MVP is about who has had impact in a single season. When Kobe won MVP last season, was it about him being a better long term investment than LeBron? Who you would keep long term has ZERO to do with winning an MVP.

I expressed my opinion of the Wade, Billups argument in post 26. I think there is merit to arguing the topic, but I think Wade has had a better season.

 

I disagree with your opinion of Billups. He is the team MVP. His pressence is the reason this team is the 2 seed this year and not the 8 seed, which they were last year. Those 4 wins have an incredible value, which is why I don't diminish them.

 

I can ask you, where would this team be without Billups? Last year they were an 8 seed with an all star in AI playing his position. Take Melo of of this team and replace him with an all star and I think the Nuggets are right where they are now, if not better.

 

Your Mo Williams argument is off base, IMO. Mo Williams deserves a ton of credit for the Cavs improvement, but no one argues that LeBron has had an incredible season and has improved tremendously in all aspects of the game from his previous seasons. Do you really want to compare Melo's season to LeBron's as if it is apples to apples?

 

As George Karl said, you can be the MVP without being the best player; it happens all the time at the league level. It happens a bunch at the team level as well. Look around the league this year. Tony Parker isn't the Spurs best player, but he is probably their MVP. Ron Artest isn't the Rockets best player, but he is probably their MVP. LaMarcus Aldridge isn't the Blazers best player, but he might be their MVP. These are all playoff teams in the West, right about where the Nuggets are. This is apples to apples for me.

 

I respect your opinion 5Wide, and I understand I won't change it here. I just want you to see my argument and understand my thought process on this. We can agree to disagree.
