Just saw the score on the KHSAA site, anyone have details???

That is a surprise to me. I knew that Williamsburg was supposed to be improved, but this is a BIG win for the program.

Yep! You are right, it was the final...I don't have any details because I didn't watch it but it seems to me that it was a shocker for the Lady Hounds! Let's hope they can rebound from this loss as they head to Ft. Walton on Spring Break.

Corbin is going to have to play much better than this if they truly want to compete for the 13th region.

 

Hats off to Williamsburg, ... they have already played South Laurel (lost 5-2), North Laurel (lost 11-1) & now Corbin, ... the top 3 preseason in the region. They are not shying away and I admire that. This is a big W for the Jackets, ... a BIG W!!!

As I stated in another thread, W'burg, imo, was overlooked by a lot and not given any credit since they started 0-3. Ellis is doing a great job. I had Corbin ranked a solid #3, but now.... I'd still like details if anyone was there.

Corbin will be fine. You guys look way too much in to these early games.

The Lady Redhounds are a young team and how can you give a team a lot of credit when a they start 0-4 and not 0-3, as you incorrectly stated.

You've got to give credit to the Lady Yellow Jackets for the win and with players such as Ashley Taylor, Sam Burr and Cecily Sears returning, many thought the Lady Yellow Jackets could contend for the No. 2 spot in the 50th District, but when you start 0-4, it's hard to give a team a lot of credit. Heck, I did a story on them before they beat Corbin and Williamsburg coach Andrea Ellis stated, “We’re just not hitting or fielding together right now and that’s a big problem,” Ellis said. “We’re just struggling right now. I’m very disappointed in the way we’ve played. I thought we would step up to the challenge this season and we haven’t done that yet.”

But with that said, Corbin will be fine. They led 3-0 after three innings and were leading 3-2 with two outs and a 1-2 count in the bottom of the seventh with no one on base before Williamsburg rallied behind Taylor, Burr and Sears.

Corbin pitcher Morgan Brock had 13 strikeouts in the loss, while Sears had two in the win for Williamsburg. The Lady Redhounds also banged out more than 10 hits, but couldn't capitalize. If I were a coach, I would rather lose now and learn than get eliminated in May. You take the loss and learn from it.

Corbin must be OK, they did beat Middlesboro 6-0, who then came back and beat Harlan County 8-0. And haven't you been high on Harlan County since the start of the season?

 

Like I said congrats goes out to Williamsburg and coach Ellis for winning and never quitting and Coach Hart will have his Lady Redhounds rebound.

And I'm still high on HC. Remember, I'm also high on M'boro as well, put both of them right behind Corbin. When I looked at W'burg's record a score was missing, that's why I had them with only 3 losses. Not sure about "how can you give a team a lot of credit" when they lose to SL close and another loss is to NL. As far as "Corbin will be fine", I agree. But rankings are about now, not the end of the season. Corbin looked exceptional against M'boro, while M'boro's defense killed them, I was told that HC's defense was horrible against M'boro, then Powers (M'boro) no-hits a good Lee High Va. team with a 18 K performance. I expect a lot of odd scores early in the season, especially with inconsistent play due to weather. But surprised Corbin wasn't up for this since it was a district game. How young is Corbin? I know they lost 3 srs last year.

Were you surprised South Laurel wasn't up for it as you say against Corbin last year when they lost, but then again, that's right, you said that was a fluke.:sssh:

Also, in the game of softball, if you graduate a shortstop, first baseman and a catcher, that is big.

Are you sensitive about Corbin softball or just anyone who disagrees with you? Again, as before, I didn't mean anything negative at all. I'm not sure what you're so touchy about. When I referred to the SL win as a fluke, I was basing it on incorrect information about who played. If SL had all of it's starters playing that game than it's a good win, just like W'burg had over Corbin y'day. As far as graduation, losing a 1st baseman isn't that big of a deal, shortstop is a little more important. But the catcher is very important, especially if catchers call pitches. From what I saw against M'boro, the 1st baseman is fine, made a couple of nice scoops. The catcher done a fine job as well, good arm, blocks the plate well, etc... Now at short, losing Rogers is very significant. They lost a excellent player for sure. But I must admit, her replacement (Schirar, sorry if I butchered the spelling) done a nice job. Good arm, nice swing, smooth hands. She's not a Mikah Rogers, but she does a fine job. W'burg lost 2 or 3 also didn't they? I know the Sears kid that played CF signed with Cumberland or Union and I think they lost 2 more. If I ruffled your feathers, I didn't mean to. I'm not sensitive about anything. The facts are you stated Corbin's win was a fluke because you said South had numerous starters out, which you were wrong. Why make a statement like that, if you don't know all of the facts? Just like the statement that Williamsburg was 0-3, when they were 0-4. The 0-4 record was there as early as late Saturday night on the KHSAA Website because I saw it.

B.I. thanks for the info, I only know a few of their players info. I was thinking the pitchers were jr's, but they may have started as 8th graders, time gets away so quick anymore. Les, you're right I did say it was a "fluke", I also went on to say "I stand corrected" and think even apologized for being wrong. Lighten up!!! As far as being wrong about W'burg's schedule I looked at it over the weekend, not sure when. I had heard they played SL close, but the person who told me couldn't remember the score. At that time, there were only 3 losses up, believe it or not, I can count. I may have to use my fingers and toes, but I still have them all so I can get to 3 pretty easily. :lol:

Corbin is a real young team! I'm not sure how many Sr's they have this year, but Coach Hart and company always manages to well come post season time. Remember they have 2 sophmore pitchers who are tough to hit!

 

I agree that Corbin is young, ... but I think there is a lot of youth in the entire region this year. North graduated 6 seniors and only has 2 seniors this year, ... South lost Wombles & Sizemore, .. Middlesboro lost Jimison, etc. Heck, you probably won't find a younger team in the region than North Laurel this year with over 1/2 their roster being sophomores down to middle school. South also has several new young players already stepping up big for them. Both of these teams are already using some middle schoolers on their varsity teams. Gaines at South is just a junior and is probably the best hitter in the state as well as a solid pitcher who has been clocked over 60mph as a soph and is a tremendous fielder as well. Taylor at North is just a junior and made the All Tournament team at the state championships last year as a sophomore pitcher and was the Jags #3 pitcher, now their #1. The sophomore pitchers for Corbin are pretty good, but they aren't at that level right now.

 

Honestly, I have seen many of these kids at Corbin, North & South in middle school, jv and varsity games the past few years, and North & South have a TON of young talent. They are LOADED for the next several years, especially on the North side. If anyone is going to beat North, they better do it now. If North were to win the region again this year, ... it could be several years before they don't make it back to the state tourney.

I agree, if you don't get NL this year, it could be a long time. Watched Hill from Corbin pitch against M'boro. She pitched very well, kept their timing off the entire game. Like B.I. stated, Hart will have them hitting on all cylinders come mid-May. He has a nice 1-2 punch in Hill and Brock.
