South Oldham 45 North Oldham 23

Featured Replies

Neither team shot very well, and this one was in doubt until South pulled away in the fourth, holding North to just 2 points in the period.

North by and large handled the South pressure much, much better than in the previous meeting in December, when the Lady Mustangs had 35+ turnovers. This time - despite having starting PG Jessica Andres out - the Lady Mustangs handled the press much better.

Tough year for North, especially with Erin Overcash - who was expected to lead the team in scoring and rebounding - out almost all year.

Kudos to both teams for playing inspired defense. The scoring was painfully slow for three periods, but credit goes to both teams for really gutsy defense. Every pass and every shot was contested.

South plays Oldham County Friday in a rematch of last year's final, won by Oldham. Oldham won the regular season meeting at Oldham in 2 OTs on a last-second three pointer by Audri Beaudrie...

I have only seen south play a few times, but it surprises me that they would struggle at all with North. South looked like a well oiled machine against AC just a few weeks ago! Have the been up and down like that most of the year?

The key question for both squads is which team will show up for each school? Both OCHS and SOHS have been with dealing with their own Jeckyll & Hyde issues in some fashion during the season. If/when each school brings its "A-game," there will be some pretty impressive play. But on those occasions when that is not the case, it can be pretty ugly, as it was for three quarters of the NOHS-SOHS game and for the first half of the OCHS-Trimble Co.

The Simon Kenton should be licking their chops at the prospects of playing in the region tourney next week. The toughest thing they may face is the prospect of making three long rides to South Oldham, but who knows for sure?

I would credit some of the ugly play of South due to the fact that the freshman make up a huge part of their team and it was their first post-season game-definitely some jitters out there by everyone. Not a pretty game by any means, but South lead by double digits most of the way with the big pull ahead towards the end. Not sure if the game was ever in doubt CM but I did say it would be a better game than the last time they met.

They will be ready Friday for OC - should be a good game. It is usually an ugly game when these two teams meet.

I guess you and I were both right, Crazy8s...the game was never really in doubt IMO, but you were right - North played a vastly improved game. With Andres out, I really didn't think North would handle the press as well as they did. Kudos to the Lady Mustangs on a gutty effort.
