Spencer County 42 Shelby County 38

Very similar game to the game played early in the year, except this time Spencer held on. They were up by nine with a minute and a half to go and where able to hold on although Shelby cut it to two points at one time. Great win for the Spencer kids, coaches, and fans. They have been in the cellar (with eminence) for a long time in the district. Winning the District will be just as tough (if not tougher) friday against AC, but they'll be making a trip to the regional tourny either way.

It has been a tough year for Sally and the Lady Rockets. She has done a great job as the Shelby County coach. I guess Sally will focus on her A. D. duties now. I doubt that she expected to be eliminated this soon. Surely they were not looking ahead to Anderson. Spencer has a real nice team.

When was the last time the Lady Rockets were not in the regional tournament?

Way to go Lady Bears! So deserving - you have worked hard for years and now that has paid off. Congrats.

I cannot remember a year that Shelby has not made it to the regional tournament- WOW!!!

Sorry to see Coach Z have such a tough year- she is a fine coach and will be missed at Shelby Co.

Zimmerman is one of the finest coaches in the state. She is a class act, and the 8th region is going to miss her.

Shelby County fans have been spoiled by her. They are really going to miss her in the coming years......

For the record, I believe the correct score was 42-38. Shelby cut it to 40-38 with ten seconds left and - without any timeouts left - was forced to foul. Spencer made two FTs for the final margin.

Spencer will shoot for their first-ever district title on Friday against Anderson County, which will be gunning for their first district title since 1978.

Im sure you are correct on the score Mike. Should be a fun game friday night, Spencer should bring quite a crowd and with the boys and girls from AC playing, AC should be well supported too. Could be quite a large crowd with the boys final to follow (AC vs Shelby). Get there early if you want to watch the boys game too!

Yes they will really miss her as a coach and with the new high school opening up in the next few years, there will be some tough years for sports and the talent pools will now be split by more than one high school. No more county dominance for Shelby. IMO this really hurt Oldham County when they had the first split back in the late 90's but the third high school was a real killer back in 2004.

Can you imagine how good Oldham County would have been if they only had one high school - WOW!!!

Theres an argument for both sides. The numbers of kids participating in sports would be 1/3 of what it is now. When schools get really large, a split is neccesary. Now if we can just get The University of Scott County to do that....

We know what happened at Oldham County before the split (and for a while afterward)...Oldham dominated the boys' 8th Region throughout the 80s, and the girls' team won something like 11 of 15 region 8 titles from 1976 to 1990, a state title, and a runner-up finish.

It's good to get more kids involved...I actually think more schools hurt ACADEMICS more than they hurt athletics, but that's a debate for another thread...

We're digressing from the thread a bit...but...Shelby is supposedly going to open the new HS in the fall of 2011, I'm told from sources in Shelby County.
