Top pitchers in the 10th

Who will be the pitchers to watch out for in the 10th region?

Who will be the pitchers to watch out for in the 10th region?

Ty Combs, Montgomery Co. Senior. Hard throwing right hander.

Justin Martin, Montgomery Co. Senior. Hard throwing left hander, if control has improved could be one of the best.

Chase Mullins, Bourbon Co. Freshman left hander. This kid could be really special.

I know Harrison will have some really good arms, just not sure who will be their best.

Only got to see Bennett last year for GRC, so not sure who will be their best pitcher's this year and I'm sure they'll be some good arms from the northern teams in the region.

Bobby Estes, Joey Rief, Matt Coffman, and Ben Franzen from Campbell

Campbell will be very young this year, won't they?

Yes they will be very young. I know they lost at least 5 maybe 7 starters from last year.

Scott loses their best two pitchers in Adams and Adkins but returns some talent in EJ Murray, Taylor Smith, and Nick Hiller.

EJ throws around 80 and tops around 83 but his key is his breaking ball that absolutely screws up hitters. Its not the best curve in the world, but for some reason it just screws up the hitters and he is able to locate it which is an EXTREME plus. I know he is playing basketball but if he has been able to up his velocity at all he will become very dominant.

Taylor Smith is also a good pitcher but more in a closer type roll. As a freshman he showed great potential but hasn't panned out much. He has a HUGE arm and great fastball, estimating around 85mph but whats lacking is his off-speed. He just hasn't been able to develop any sort of off-speed pitch and thus struggles if he pitches too long. He is able to locate his fastball reasonably well and I think will be good for 1-2, maybe 3 innings if handled correctly. If he develops an off-speed pitch, he should and will most likely be included in the starting rotation.

Nick Hiller showed great potential as a sophomore as he pitched in a couple of varsity games and did extremely well. This lefty located around a 80mph fastball and his bread and butter pitch is his curveball. He also throws a pretty good change. Although his sophomore year was great, he struggled his junior year with his control and eventually lost his starting job and was thrown into the relief roll. If he is able to get focused and heal up his ankle (was injured over the summer) I think he will be just fine.

All three are seniors and are all righties with the exception of Hiller (lefty).

Some more noteables are Zach Sowder (JR) who saw some innings as a sophomore and despite his size, delivered some pop.

Who returns strong for them?

Who returns strong for them?

Not sure to be honest with you. I know the Estes boy is supposed to be pretty solid. Other than that I can't think of anyone. They were Senior dominant last year and I think it could take them a while to get use to the Varsity level. Yes, they had a good JV team last season BUT there is an awfully big difference between JV and Varsity.

So basically they wont be as strong as in there past years correct?

Its hard to say exactly. Campbell has always had talented freshman and JV teams, but they all haven't seemed to totally translate to the Varsity level (that speaks volumes just how big the difference is between them). With that said, they will definitely be lacking in experience as they have had in the past and I'm sure, as most know, experience can make up for talent at times so its not a venture to say they won't be as good as years past..... at least for early on. They will probably be a streaky team as thats how must inexperienced teams are. We will see how much they have progressed by the end of the season.

The Camels usually have seven or eight seniors every year. They will be solid again this season. They have won the district three of the last five years and every year people say they lost alot of seniors from the year before and are inexperienced. I don't see any reason for them not be there like the past years.

Well I mean thats just district. I'm really talking about are they going to be able to compete as in the region.

Well i guess it will all depend on the type of schedule they have this season. Maybe playing weaker teams in the beginning will help the young players get used to the varsity life.

It will be hard just in the district, with BB and SH, but with Estes, Coffman, Franzen, Rief, Broering, they do have kids that can pitch and throw the ball over the plate, if they can work some of the underclassman into the line-up which should help them put up runs, they will be a very good team by region, just because they are replacing 5 to 6 starters does not mean that they will not be good by region, most high school teams have to do that year in and year out, CCHS always has to replace 9to 10 seniors, they do have Estes, Coffman, Franzen, Broering, Lauer that played last year, back this year.
