ColonelMike
I'm just surprised at the new method of taking the bottom 125 that will participate. Seems like a classification that is based on size - supposedly, the smallest schools - shouldn't include mid-sized schools just because some of the "small school" club members opt out. Seems like schools over a certain size shouldn't qualify for the all-A regardless of how many teams participate. Just a thought... hmmm If enough teams don't participate, meaning the 125th smallest team that participates is now over 700 students (getting close to that now), it seems like the entire concept of the all-A will be compromised. The idea was that, even though all high schools can compete against each other in basketball despite enrollment, the odds are longer for the smallest of the small...the Eminences, the Paris', the Monticellos, the Holy Crosses... much more of this, and these guys are going to be as dwarfed by their All-A competition as they are in some Sweet 16 games... ! westsider
The class a tourney is open to the 125 schools grades 9-12 with the lowest enrollment. If a school chooses not to play in the tourney then number 126 is invited and so on.Not true ... only the bottom 125 are eligible. The qualifications were changed from the original guidelines because the All A Classic has lost some participating schools over the last 20 years because of consolidations ... roughly 20 in all. westsider
They must have been a lot of small schools did not attend, for schools the size of Caldwell and Sheldon Clark to be invited. I don't know about Caldwell but Sheldon Clark is AAA in football.Caldwell is 2A in football.
westsider
Always thought Corbin was small enough to be an All A Basketball team, but I guess not. I looked up their enrollment and was surprised that they have 706students in grades 9-12. Yet they are 2A in football and Sheldon Clark with 628 students in 9-12 is 3A in football. Doesn't add up?? Maybe use 10-12 grade numbers for football classes, but shouldn't make that big a difference one would think as all classes would be about the same size??The football classifications were determined two years ago, with enrollment figures that are now 3-4 years old. Mr. Athletics
Not true ... only the bottom 125 are eligible. If I am not mistaken, Henry Co. was ranked number 127 in the state and somehow got in the tourney. Please correct me if I am wrong.
