Individual Basketball Camps for High Schoolers

Does anyone know of any good individual camps to send a high school aged kid to. My son is currently a freshman and his mother and I are trying to find a good camp to send him to this summer. I have seen the 5 Star camp that is a Middle Tennessee State University and I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on that camp or any other camp that might be beneficial that is in the South/Southeast/or Ohio/Indiana area? Any information anyone can give would be appreciated. Thank you.

The Blue Chips Camp was good years ago, havent heard if it still is or not. It would be worth looking into.

It depends on what you're looking for. There are two types of camps: exposure camps and improvement camps.

5-Star and Blue Chip (and many others) are focused on exposure and little emphasis is given toward improvement.

Other camps are designed to put kids through drills and work on specific skills. Rick Mount Shooting Camp comes to mind.

 

If you go the exposure route - do your research. There are a lot of crooks out there.

In this case I am looking into exposure camps. The Rick Mount Shooting Camp is also something I have looked at and plan to send to him and my younger son to skills camps, but I would like to get my oldest into a good exposure camp just so we are

 

a.) Realistic about his potential and chance to play college basketball.

 

b.) See if there is an AAU team he may be able to play with in the summer at some point in his high school career(currently a freshman).

 

c.) Give him an opportunity to play against top notch talent and evaluate his game and learn what else he needs to work on to become the best player he can possibly be for his high school team as he continues to get older.

 

I want to give my son every opportunity to follow his dreams as a basketball player.

Than you need to make a list of Colleges, that your son could possibly play at and plan on attending those camps. Many DI programs will invite in other area colleges, from DII to NAIA when they host.

 

These are often great exposure opportunities for the price of 1 camp. In Baseball for example, I've taken my son to numerous camps and at one, he was observed pitching by 23 different college and many, are now following him.

 

Market him to the level of play, he can participate at and then attend camps with those schools.

Dick Bumgardner has a really good shooting camp. They don't work on anything but shooting, footwork, proper form, shooting off the dribble, etc.

 

The camp is located in Richmond IN.

 

University of the Cumberland's also has a pretty good camp, it has more all round instruction.

I am also looking for feedback from any type of camp that anyone has attended. How good is the 5 Star camp if anyone has been to it or if the Blue Chip camp or if the U of L or UK camps are any good.
