The Cubs have reached agreement with the Orioles on a deal that will send Pie to Baltimore for left-hander Garrett Olson and Class A right-hander Henry Williamson, according to major-league sources.

 

 

Pie, rated the Cubs' No. 1 prospect by Baseball America in 2007, has yet to prove he can hit in the majors, batting .223 with a .284 on-base percentage in 287 career plate appearances.

The Padres wanted Olson as part of a three-team trade for Jake Peavy earlier this off-season, and could ask for him again from the Cubs if those talks revive.

This makes me feel even more stronger that Peavey will be a Cub. Likely package will be Olson, Vitters, Cedeno and the 3 guys from Cleveland we recieved for Derosa!

Funny. I think the Cubs traded Corey Patterson to the O's to get rid of him too. :lol:

If the Cubs do keep Olson, he has potential. He was rushed to the majors. Had he been with the Cubs last year he'd have been in triple A all year

Even if they don't land Peavy, the trades will help restock their farm system that has been gutted by Hendry trades in recent years.

Yea, I think they can rebuild the farm system in 2 years if they really want to. I'd almost be willing to trade Lee for some good prospects if not for his NTC...

Pie had worn out his welcome in Chi-town, didn't seem like he was ever gonna get enough time to understand big league hitting. He can go play for a bad team every day, get his swing shortened up and make it to another roster that has a chance to win AND get to play everyday. Probably the best for both parties

I think this has been a horrible offseason for the Cubbies. I'm afraid they'll still land Peavy, but the Cubs have made a few moves this offseason that have just left me scratching my head.

He was the #1 prospect for a while, he's been brought up and he can't hit big league pitching. Does it all but hits, sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. They had to get some LH bats and it came with a price.
