Lincoln County @ Garrard County (1/20)

Recommended Posts

This is a ways off...

Too many between now and the 20th to focus on it.

Garrard County came back from the non-game on Friday night and won handily at a bad Monticello team Saturday evening. The Lions don't play mid-week, returning to action on Friday night at home against Sayre. The Lincoln game would be the next Tuesday.

I know/knew Garrard would be better. I haven't seen them play personally, so I don't know how much better they are. It's really hard to determine by looking at their schedule. Very weak schedule up to this point. I think LC is obviously more battle tested and has the experience. Garrard has the home court advantage and are ready to end their losing streak to Garrard.

Two weeks ago, I would've said GC wins this game, now I don't know. LC is playing much better since they got back from Florida. It should be a good game in Lancaster. I hope GC fans are out supporting their team this year, in years past LC has had more fans over there than GC.

I was referring to LC, they had two games this week. GC has had two byes since last Friday....;)

Just to clear up the issue with the scoreboard, it is contracted through Pepsi, so blame them. For some reason they didn't want to come work on it on a Friday night.

I do believe that Garrard's crowd has increased by far this season. Plus, with the addition to their student section combined with their band that was 3rd in state, it should be a great atmosphere for the kids to play in. I wouldnt say that Garrard hasn't had a battle tested schedule. Playing at Anderson County first game, which BTW lost to Elliot in overtime by 3. Garrard lost that by 15. Beating Southwestern at home by 30+, beating a very good Woodford County team at home by 12, and beating a very good Grant County team, and a very good Danville team both on the road. Garrard has had some games where they were down 13 to Grant with 3 minutes left, and forced overtime and ended up winning by 9 or 10. Lincoln has had a very tough schedule as well, but I see their schedules being very similiar competition wise to this point.

Garrard County has played a few nice teams this year, but it's easy to tell that their schedule is definitely backloaded. The Lions play every 12th Region team except McCreary, Wayne and Somerset this season, but they've only played five of them so far. The schedule definitely picks up over the next few weeks.

If you want to look at records, Garrard's opponents have a combined record of 123-128, which is 49%. That percentage is lowered predominantly due to games with Berea, Marion County and Monticello. Lincoln County's opponents have a combined record of 124-94, which is 57%. Boyle is statistically the worst team the Patriots have beaten and if you know anything about that rivalry, the records definitely do not matter.

When you look at Garrard, they've done exactly what they were supposed to during the early part of the year. You could argue that the three best teams they played have beaten them (Anderson, West, Taylor), but they do have good wins over Woodford and Grant, and numerically good wins over Southwestern and Burgin.

After Lincoln had a rough winter break, they seem to be playing much better. I think you the Danville loss is covered by the big win over the Ads a couple weeks later. Of course the improvement Danville has shown since Christmas certainly makes the loss by Lincoln look a little better. The other two state losses are to an underrated Russell County squad (15-1) on the road on opening night and to an always tough Henry Clay team. All I know about the loss in Florida is that Gateway High School is 8-4.

Bottom line, this should be an evenly matched, good ballgame. Lincoln has to have the advantage, simply because of their wins over regional contenders West Jessamine, East Jessamine and Wayne County. Garrard County can't match that today, but a win over Lincoln would go a long way toward showing what they are capable of.

Nice breakdown. :thumb:

I like GC's coach a lot. His style of play is hard to prepare for. I noticed Stanford had the edge over GC, that's what I'm talking about.
