Morehead St. 99 Kentucky Christian 39

Your last comment is a pretty good explanation as to why MSU scheduled this game against Kentucky Christian. Even though the Eagles have built a much stronger program in recent years, attendance is nowhere near where it ought to be--especially when the students leave Morehead. I guess the Athletics Department was simply experimenting with a strategy to fill more seats. On the 18th (vs. James Madison), MSU took a different approach and gave away several thousand tickets to local school kids at a game played at 12:00 noon.

You know it's a shame that even with the students gone that the city and county and surrounding communities don't generate more interest for the university's athletic contests. They have a nice facility, easy access, and the prices aren't bad. I know it was cold Monday, but it was like attending a high school game between 2 teams that goes to a tournament and can't bring any fans. I know that the OVC suffers from lack of proper TV revenue, but there has to be something they can do to generate more revenue to spread about the conference for recruiting and other public relations advertising.

While the game was an exh for KCU, I think it counted for Morehead State. IF they wanted an easy game before Christmas, they could have scheduled any number of Kentucky NAIA schools that are actually decent. This does more to hurt Morehead State then help. Beating a hapless opponent doesn't do anything for them. IMO

I think KCU has several players on suspension that will be coming back soon.

As far as the game couting or not counting....well let me give you an example that I know first-hand about.

Last week, Northern Kentucky University played a regular-season game against Indiana University-East at The Bank of Kentucky Center. The game counted on the NKU schedule BUT is does not for IU-East since they had decided before the season started that this was going to be an exhibition for themselves.

When schools from different organizations play against NCAA schools, they don't necessarily have to abide by the scheduling rules of the NCAA. They can consider it an exhibition.

Another would be that Union College in Barbourville has already played three exhibition and has yet another in January....all games are against NCAA schools They have lost at Kentucky Wesleyan College (NCAA DII) 91-52 on Nov. 29, at Tennessee Tech (NCAA DI) 87-40 on Dec. 14, and at Wofford (NCAA DI) 82-41 on Dec. 17. They still have to play at Louisiana-Monroe (NCAA DI) on Jan. 3.

I don't like this practice by those schools because they don't necessarily have to play anyone. They could play nothing but there third and fourth stringers and it not count yet when it counts for you, you're going to play your best for as long as you can before the game gets really ugly.

I agree with your premis, either the game should count for both or be an exhib for both. It's really easy to fix. The NCAA Could mandate that if a game counted for it's member school it has to count for the opposing school. If the oppossing schools declares it an exhib, then the NCAA school has to follow suit. Then when the contracts are drawn up, the contract can contain language that will say whether it's a counter or not.

I don't begrudge schools like Union or KCU from playing, they get a monetary guarantee which helps fund their program. But I do blame the DI schools for scheduling a team that couldn't beat their managers like KCU and Morehead. If Morehead wants to play an NAIA school they need to play Campbellsville, Cumberlands, Pikeville..... At least that way they get a decent game. And interest is still higher because they are playing another Kentucky school.

I 100% agree with you the points that I bolded.

It would help attendance and public relations if Tyndall would try to recruit at least some local players with D1 talent!:rolleyes::irked:
