2009: Week 0 or Week 1

Featured Replies

Can somebody please explain the difference starting your season in Week 0 or Week 1, including how many scrimmages and open dates you would have with each?

I've heard different answers to that question and I'm confused.

What is the date of your first game if you start in Week 0? What is the date of your first game if you start in Week Week 1?

Teams have the option to begin playing their season in week 0 or week 1. If you begin your season in week 0, you get an open week, but can only play one scrimmage. If you begin in week 1, then you get two scrimmages, but no open week. It's up to each individual school as to which they choose.

That sounds simple enough.

So if I want an open date, I give up a scrimmage. If I want 2 scrimmages, I give up the open date.

Is that right?

You got it right. Just depends on what matters more to a school, the Open Week or 2 Scrimmages.

If you choose Week 0, does that affect your start date, practice in pads date, etc., in any way?

No, the start date for pads, for now, is still determined by the first day of school per school. Again, that goes back to the philosophical question of do you want an extra week of practice before you start or do you want a break somewhere in the season?
