BEREA — Just when it seemed that Madison Southern was ready to claim its first victory of the season, Zac Cantrell stole it away.

 

East Jessamine’s senior quarterback ran for three touchdowns and intercepted Eagle freshman quarterback Chris Roberts with 14.3 seconds left to seal the comeback victory for the Jaguars, 27-26, Friday at Gilliam Athletic Field in Berea.

I was at this game and it was a great one to watch. Hats off the East for coming back, but Madison Southern had a few suspect calls, one of which East scored a touchdown when the East running back fumbled the ball out of the endzone which should have been a touchback and Southern's ball. I was proud of how those kids fought back after the beating they took at Bell Co. last week. My hat goes off to Coach Brumley and his staff for being able to keep his kids focused when they could have quit weeks ago. This team is growing everyday. I know Madison Southern is 0-8, but these kids fight, and they only play about 15 kids total. Southern is a team full of Juniors and Sophomores, and their quarterback Roberts is a Freshman. If this team has a good winter they will be a tough team to deal with in 2009. Congrats to East Jessamine on a good win, their team and coaching staff are class acts.
