October 11, 200817 yr I am well aware of what the repercussions may have been had the bailout not passed. My question is when does it stop? Or do we just admit we are in a more socialist environment than capatalist? When do we stop artficially propping up the economy? When do we let the chips fall where they may? If we don't then we are truly in a socialist state. I agree, it is a slippery slope. What is next??? Everyone is entitled to a 150K house and if you can not afford it the government will subsidize the difference. Everyone is entitled to a 60K per year job, if not the government will subsidize it... LN, my fear is that it is not temporary. I hear where you are coming from and I have struggled with this situation as well, but more and more I think we should have just let the marketplace find equilibrium on its own. Regardless of the consequences. Once the toothpaste is out of the tube it is tough to get back in. Once you allow some to put their hand in the till, where does the line get drawn. The government has no business owning corporate assets. Right now the stock market is totally trading on psychology. That can happen for a short amount of time, but it will not last for long. The baby has been thrown out with the bath water, especially in the case of many PROFITABLE corporations that have seen 40 to 50% of their stock value shaved off in the matter of a few days. Some extremely good buying opportunities out there right now to buy quality companies at really cheap prices. When the market starts to trade on fundamentals again here in the next few weeks, there are going to be a lot of companies that look really cheap.
