September 30, 200818 yr I guess I don't understand the conventional wisdom that one must have been a governor to be an appropriate candidate for President (or VP). I hail from a state that gave us Spiro Agnew. And lest folks think I'm picking on the GOP, Jimmy Carter wasn't the most effective executive we've ever had, either. I'm not here to say that Palin should step down. But it is abundantly clear to me that her credentials as a mayor and a governor haven't necessarily translated into being a stellar choice for running mate. The decision to put her on the ticket seems to be, as others have said much better than I, a purely political ploy to reach to two demographics - women and persons on the far right who weren't doing somersaults over McCain heading up the ticket.
