Boyle County and Danville State Champions

Featured Replies

I almost posted this in the Predition thread but I decided not to highjack it.

These are two elite programs. Danville has 10 state titles; Boyle County has 5. While Boyle County's 5 titles came over a consecutive 5 year stretch, Danville has claimed football titles over a 41 year period (1962-2003).

Since 1999, Danville's record is 102-24 (80.9%); Boyle County's record is 108-19 (85.0%). Amazingly, 13 of Boyle County 19 losses over the past 9 seasons came in the past two years.

The last state title for either school was in 2003. Both Boyle and Danville did have Final appearances, and runnerup titles, in 2004. Danville lost in the Finals again in 2006.

Are the championship blooms of their respective lilies in Title Town? Or, is this the year for the title to return to Title Town?

Of the two, I think Danville has the best shot at another title this year.

Whether either ever wins a state football championship again (which they likely will), these are two great programs that have a deserved place in Kentucky football history books.

I would agree with your assessment of this year. But if Boyle continues to improve and show the same kind of play against the likes of Danville and Lex Cath then I feel safe to say that all bets are off and Boyle might be a State Contender this year.

Of the 2 I think Boyle may have the more difficult path. Not only do they have to face Lex Cath in their own District (among others), but if they were to get as far as the semi-finals I think they would have to travel to Bell County who is very loaded this year (from all I've heard).

I think this game will show how far Boyle's program has rebounded from the last 2 sub-par years and it will show how far Danville is along in their quest for an 11th state crown.

I have seen both Bell and Boyle this season and right now Boyle is the better team.

Both teams look like they could make a serious title run this year.
