September 10, 200818 yr FWIW, I agree completely with everything you are saying. I never disagreed on your opinion, and I may be as conservative as you, or at least close. Ask anyone on this board if I am a liberal. What I found disturbing is saying things like "perhaps they should be rendered faceless." It adds little to the discussion, and most likely further divides people from our side of the debate. If I was an undecided/liberal on this issue, hearing something like that would turn me away. And if you truly find my "more liberal" views (which, BTW, I don't have) more dangerous in the long run, then you simply wouldn't say things like that. Sorry if I stepped on your toes by attributing liberalism to your views. I sincerely mean that. :thumb: I work in an industry that has been rendered impotent by political correctness and absurd limitations on common sense safeguards such as profiling. I am disgusted that we cannot scrutinize the specific individuals we know are most likely to perpetrate heinous acts, electing instead to frisk grandmothers and other unlikely potential perpetrators simply because we might hurt somebody's feelings if we don't inconvenience everyone equally. For the record, there's not a bigoted bone in my body. I do not judge anyone on their skin tone or nationality. I do believe that "all men are created equal" by God. I do my best to love my neighbor as myself... even those who do not think like me or agree with my beliefs. I do however have a huge bias against evil men and women who seek to kill and maim innocents... for any reason. When I said, "perhaps they should be rendered faceless" I was making a feeble play on words in response to UKPat02's reference to Hezbollah as: "This is not a "faceless" organization like suicide bombers in Iraq." I wasn't talking about disfiguring them, I was talking about granting them an express pass into eternity on an as needed basis for their leaders until they are willing to lay down their weapons and violence against innocents and discuss how they might become peaceful citizens of the world community. If that offends liberals and fencesitters, so be it. A bunch of whacked out religious fanatics killing innocent men, women and children because they hate them for their religious beliefs offends me. I detest fighting and bloodshed, and want to aviod it if at all possible, but if someone decides to hurt my family, I wouldn't have a second thought about stopping them, permanently if necessary. I see terrorists no differently.

FWIW, in my next post, I agreed with Pepper (and you) that just because Hezbollah provides social services (cough buying voters cough) does not mean they get some special pass. I am not big fan of political correctness, but if our intent is to convince others about our way of running government, then unfortunately, without diminishing what we stand for, we have to do so in a manner that is conducive to convincing others.

Question...aren't American campaign promises, in essecence, buying votes? As to Political Correctness, I get upset because many people seem to confuse politeness with political correctness. Others confuse an ability to convey thoughts and ideas without vitrol, scorn and disdain as political correctness.

Yes, but I have a more complex answer to your question, but it would be better for another thread, which would assuredly end poorly. But feel free to start it. Good point on the second section of your post.
September 10, 200818 yr Question...aren't American campaign promises, in essecence, buying votes?Yes... absolutely. But doing community service in your own community full of people who believe what you believe just to build favor so you'll have a place to hide as cowards among your own women and children (because you know your enemy will not intentionally kill women and children) while you launch missles, rockets and bombs intended to kill innocent men, women and children across the border among people you hate is heinous, criminal and worthy of punishment, not negotiations. As to Political Correctness, I get upset because many people seem to confuse politeness with political correctness. On a daily basis, person-to-person you will find me to be one of the most polite people you will ever know. I say "Yes Ma'am" and "No Ma'am", I open doors for women, children and even men. I genuinely love my fellow man. I get in the Poly forum of BGP and get frustrated reading foolishness about "negotiating with known terrorists" and allow deeply felt, intelligently considered and truly justified frustrations spill over and do not express myself as politely as I typically would in person. Political correctness is the scourge of a free society, and the death of common sense. Sorry if that's not polite, but it is placing more innocent people in legitimate harm's way than most of you will ever know or believe. Others confuse an ability to convey thoughts and ideas without vitrol, scorn and disdain as political correctness. Apparently, condescension cloaked in neutral language directed at those who choose to express their outrage in less gentle terms is polite? If one cannot express vitriol, scorn and disdain for the actions of terrorists, I can't imagine where such legitimate wrath can be expressed. Edited September 10, 200818 yr by Fastbreak
