Talking heads just mentioned that Trooper James Sullivan, hear of the Alaskin State Police is filing a suit against Governor Palin on behalf of her ex brother in law for his attempted firing. I assume this would be a seperate civil suite from the on going investigation.

I would say that she was trying to get it in front of a friendly (ie I control your job) crowd.

The decision on this has been schedule now for 9.12 instead of 10.30. Good news either way for Sen. McCain. It eliminates the October Surprise possibility and regardless of the outcome it gives them some time to react.

I see the McBush camp is crying foul and has already concluded that this trropergate investigation is political even though it began weeks before his selection of Mrs. Palin.

Hypotheticals, that deserve answering:

 

1. If a sitting Governor knows of a corrupt cop (this guy admitted tasering a 10-year old as part of a training exercise) that could potentially be a liability to the state and/or bad for the state's image, regardless of whether that cop is a former relative or not, does not that Governor have a duty to make inquiry, even forceful inquiry, into that cop's employment?

 

2. What if the story within the story here is that Wooten actually was a very corrupt, very bad police officer, and availed himself of the so-called Blue Wall of Secrecy to shield him from punishment? If inquiries, even forceful inquiries, were made, then Palin appears very much to be the corruption-fighter that she is billed to be. Maybe we should ask 'Ru and Scribe if they tasered a 10 year-old (among other things), whether they would get more than a 5-day suspension.

Except Wooten has been been promoted several times and seems to be well liked by the entire law enforcement community. These accusations occured several years ago and no complaint was made until the custody hearing, so I'am going with sour grapes.

That threat was found to have occurred by the Alaska State Police Investigation Board, and they found it was a violation of its internal policy. The only reason it was not a criminal offense was because the threat was not made directly to the father, only indirectly. In addition, Wooten had been previously suspended for other violations (including drinking on duty), and had a very large personnel file, and had had some problems since.

Well, on the taser issue, Wooten said it was not used like it would be on a criminal apprehesion. He did not shot any barbs into the boy, nor was it on full power. To satisfy the boy's curiousity, he let him touch the terminals on low voltage ( similar to touching an electric fence ). I would have to say that one was over exagerated.

 

The Moose, Wooten says he didn't know it was against the law. I do find this hard to believe. If he is a law enforcement officer he should know the laws.

This is a cover-up folks, Palin was right to be concerned, and the smoke smells just as bad from that as it does from any alleged 'abuse of office' investigation.

I guess it depends on if you believe all, some or none of what Wooten himself said in the interview. So far, he is the only one talking, Palin is dodging the deposition. She filed her own ETHICS review so she could have the investigation changed to the personnel board, which she heads up. You know more abot the law then that Hearsey......guess we just have to disagree. We'll see what the special investigator turns up.
