Whitley County looking to challenge for top spot
The Whitley County Colonels will begin their quest of a Class 5A, District 8 championship next week when they open the season against the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets at WCHS.

The following week should be a good indicator for the Colonels when Coach Jim Black takes Whitley County to Log Mountain, home of the Bell County Bobcats.

After a long road trip to Newport, the Colonels will get into district action at North Laurel. Perry Central comes to Whitley County the first Friday in September followed by a visit to Letcher Central. It was Letcher Central who stopped the Colonels in a big game last season.

Some errors, but all in all, a nice job. Impressive to see a local newspaper try to cover in detail all the teams in a class throughout the state. :thumb:

Did a nice with some interesting facts.

Jim McAlister does a really, really good job with the local teams in all sports. The only thing he really does that kind of hurts him is coming out with his own state rankings that always seem "homerish" for the local teams. We all always seem to be in the mix of whatever class we are in. I guess whatever will work to sell papers. All in all, always a very good job, though.:thumb:
