GRC did not score a run in the state tournament what went wrong I thought they were better than that.

They played a pretty good schedule, but didn't get any really big wins over teams ranked inside the Top 25 or the teams in the "also receiving votes" group, so it shouldn't be a big surprise.

I thought Montgomery would have been there out of the 10th they beat SCOTT CO,DUNBAR,CAL,GARRAD X2,LAFAYATTE,LEX CATHOLIC X2 I guess sometimes the best team dont get to state huh.

That's why rivalry games such as GRC-Montgomery make things interesting.

I still would like to know who gave GRC the #1 vote in the final regular season poll. That had to be a political move without a doubt.

 

As far as GRC, they have a pretty good team. But at the state tournament, the competition level is so much higher than normally only the team who have played against tough opposition are fully prepared for it. The top 3 tournament finishers 1. Greenwood, 2. North Laurel and 3. Owensboro Catholic all played championship caliber games and tournaments during the regular season and it better prepared them for the big games they had to have in the tournament.

I am with you. I can tell you what happens in most cases, when you challenge student athletes with a challenging schedule. They get better. Once you play someone good enough to expose your weaknesses, you can then deal with them and improve. The top teams do it year in and year out and that is how they stay sharp. They don't pump up their numbers with a schedule full of weaker opponents just get the W. I guarantee you that Ryle's victory in the state tourney over Ballard felt MUCH better than some of the teams they hammered this year. North Laurel's win over Ryle & O'Cath in the state tourney felt MUCH better than beating a weaker team, etc.... at least give them the chance to see where they are THEN they will get better. GRC has talent. They beat a pretty solid Montgomery Co team so the ability is there. They also have a very good coach. Just beef up the schedule. You don't have to play world beaters every game. But add some more beef to the burger! :thumb:

 

The exception is a new program. If you are just starting, play a managable schedule at first, then beef it up little by little each year. I would bet that the kids' level of play will improve.

Why would you say something is fishy when someone voted Clark Co. #1 which accounted for their 25 points? The poll is done on a point system. Why would blame the person that counts it? People should be happy that someone cares enough about the game to tabulate the rankings (sent from the coaches) each week. If you look at the final poll, it was actually pretty accurate. Of the top 12 teams, they all finished in the top 12 in the state except for 4 (These 4 didn't make it to the state because of their region. Grayson-same region as Owensboro Catholic; Dunbar same region as Scott Co.; Manual and Mercy-same region as Ballard).
